  • ð LAP OF LUXURY ð !!!!!! ð¸ MEOWWWWW!!!!

    by heidi D on 2018-07-12 08:23 pm

WOW !! This place is CELEB STATUS? !!! We found this SWANLY joint on line (by accident) and sure glad we did! Ok, only the pros n cons folks YOU decide:

? Pros - THE BEST LOCATION EVER!!!!! Walking distance to all of the important attractions - Art Mu, restaurants, lake front, Mil park, boat cruise etc. ?

The price was perfect- for summer we paid about $250, while other nearby hotels were $500 -600. ?

The staff upon check- in were all OVER THE MOON BABY - helpful, kind, cheery, Elegant, FAB!!! ?

Our Room - YOWZA, very POSH!!! We hit the jack pot!!! It was like a mini suite. Ex large room, with a living room, GINORMOUS bath room, TWO SHOWERS!!!!!! UNREAL!! ?

KING SIZE bed PLUSH of course! UBER COMFY mattress! Darkening drapes for us "night hawks"!! LOL ?

2 - TVs, 1 in living room and 1 in bed area - did I mention Celeb status!!

Krupps cafe maker, Fridge, tons of Mirrors, chaise lounge couch area that would make Greta Garbo jealous! ?

Little " EXTRAS" as I woman ...I sandalwood aromatherapy shampoo, cond., soap and lotion. YUMMY! The Silversmith is a SUPERIOR Establishment friends!

EXTRA FLUFFY - NEW towels!!! ( the sheets were as LUXURIOUS!)

Climate control in room ~ ( 71 was our fav for sleeping) ?

The Lobby and main portion of hotel features a magnificent entrance/ bar/ lounge/ smorgestboard of chairs and seating....+ back hideaway area all decorated beautifully in nickel, velvet and chandeliers! C'est Magnifique! ?

    The theme for this hotel is 1920-30s classy| vintage| mysterious | sexy | chic | & sophisticated! ?
    Cons: no biggie...

This hotel is on the L track and there was a slight "mur mur" at night from the train passing, I simply tuned in White noise app on my phone and it canceled it out- easy fix!

I have neck issues and am use to "my particular pillow" - in which I didn't bring...this hotel features down pillows that are too flat in front and too poofy in back for me. I personally didn't care for them ...I placed a hand towel under my pillow to level off...and slept well.

Our phone in room had a bad cord / bad connection. Perhaps management could replace it.

? We'd like to give GREG the door man and bell captain a SHOUT OUT! GREAT JOB!! The lady that checked us out - it believe her name was Beverly, super sweet. ( and Mareka )
? Over all we LOVED your hotel - will tell all of our friends ....and we will be back soon!!! You ARE our NEW FAV & REGULAR HOTEL!! ?? Thank you all and see you soon, we're so happy to spread the word!!!! ??

  • Lovely boutique hotel in downtown Chicago.

I've stayed at the Silversmith twice now, and my husband has stayed three times, and we love it. A historic property in Jeweler's Row, it is completely modernized, with sophisticated furnishings that reflect on its past. The staff members are so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are gorgeous. The location can't be beat. We were able to walk everywhere. The toiletries are nice and the beds are comfortable. Everything is clean and maintained. I heartily recommend it.

The hotel is centrally located. The Silversmith offers comfortable rooms. The staff was helpful and friendly. Right on EL. It was just a block away from the park. Everything we were doing was an easy walk.

  • Simply Wonderful

I picked the Silversmith by reading online reviews. I have never been to Chicago and was attending a conference at the Sheraton which was, thankfully, sold out. So I did some research and came across the Silversmith.

    A few things:
    1. It is considered an historic building so that in and of itself peaked my curiosity.
    2. It is boutique-y which I happen to love. As I get older I have no patience for gobs of people at every turn like the chain hotels. It is quiet in the halls, the elevators come at lightening speed, and the front desk staff is kind, helpful and always smiling.
    3. The room is immaculate. The bed like one at the Ritz Carlton. The toiletries are Molton Brown which is impressive. The towels are dense, fluffy, and there are plenty of them in the room.
    4. For the summer, the air conditioning is fabulous!

I highly recommend staying here. It is old world Chicago with the charm of the 21st century a block away. I happen to like that the train/L runs right past the hotel.

The only negative is no sundry shop but Target and Walgreens are a stone's throw away.

  • Great hotel, great location

    by MikeandWendy01 on 2018-07-09 01:37 pm

We stayed here for 6 nights in June 2018 and had a great time. The room was beautifully appointed quiet and very clean. The only down side was it was always very dark as it looked out onto an internal courtyard and so we had to have the lights on all of the time, even on the sunniest of days. This is the trade off I suppose to the alternative of a brighter room on the front with the noise of the L train going past. It is really easy to travel to and from the airport by train which is a really cost effective way of making the trip and also it is quicker than driving through traffic. The Washington/Wabash stop is right outside the hotel.
You can easily walk from the hotel to all of the main attractions and we would recommend using the free Chicago Greeter service to help you to get to know the city. We bought a Go Chicago Go card which gave a reduced price on several attractions. The hop on, hop off bus was really good and the 360 degree observation deck at the John Hancock Centre was well worth the trip.
There are plenty of good eating places near the hotel and reception recommended Giordano's for Chicago style deep dish pizza .... we couldn't even manage to eat a small one between us!!
Make sure to go out to the Lincoln Park area and visit the zoo and whe you are there the North Pond restaurant is a great place for brunch in a very pretty setting with a lovely view back to the city skyline.
