  • 2-day weekend visit

The Spa at Norwich Inn was nice enough, but not particularly out-of-the-ordinary. The beds were great, very comfortable, but that was balanced out by issues like bathroom door not closing, partially broken chair, and kitchen not well cleaned. The restaurant food was average, but they do a good job catering to various diet restrictions. The pool and gym were a bit disappointing - small and with not a lot of great equipment. They offer a lot of spa options (facials, massages etc), but because of its size, it was not a very relaxing and soothing environment. Too busy and crowded (although quiet). There was also some kind of musty smell in the entrance hall to the main building.

  • Nice grounds but rooms need cleaning and renovating

Came here for a getaway weekend with friends and rented a villa for two nights. The villa are cramped, the bathroom is tiny, and the balcony definitely needs painting. Our villa also had a broken, unusable chair and the coffee maker was disgustingly filthy. We did enjoy the grounds and the restaurant. It's a nice place but as mentioned it could use some renovations to make the inn a truly luxury experience as advertised.

  • Awesome Getaway

It was an awesome midweek getaway! We had a corner room with a great view. The spa is lovely. Breakfast and dinner in the Kensington were delicious! Special recognition to Verlin at check-in, Dawn at dinner and Jasmine at fitness. I would definitely return.

  • Needs a renovation!

My friend and I recently went to the Norwich Inn for a weekend to celebrate our 50th birthdays. Being a special occasion, we wanted a bit of a splurge, and thought the Norwich Inn would be perfect location (based on word of mouth). I can't tell you how disappointed we both were. We booked a villa, as it provided more space. The room itself was extremely out-dated and shabby. The furniture was old, the bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the sofa bed was so uncomfortable that neither of us could sleep on it. The bathroom grout was crumbling, and there were long hairs in the shower. We went to the front desk to complain, and were given a $50 credit by the manager. Every time we passed the desk, someone was complaining (room cleanliness, items -- like the TV's -- not working, and bill errors). It was almost comical! The front desk was staffed by very young, nice girls, who weren't very knowledgeable. On our first evening, we dined at Kensingtons. The food was pricey, but good. (I thought the red onions overpowered my salmon dish, but the salmon was cooked perfectly.) There is an excellent list of wines by the glass. The water in the restaurant was awful, and had a rusty taste. When we commented on it, we were told it was filtered, which just doesn't seem possible. (If it is, the filter needs to be changed.) We were offered complimentary club soda, but we wanted non-sparkling water, so were given to a bottle of spring water only to later discover that it cost more than our glasses of wine! There was also a very odd odor on the hallway outside the restaurant and the restaurant itself that smelled like burned gym socks. We mentioned it to one of the staff, who said it was the cleaning products that are used. We also went to the nightly wine tasting, which was a bit of a joke. We were told wines would be paired with different cheeses, but what we found was a table of cheese & crackers, then a person who would pour 1 inch of either red or white wine. So I guess it should have been called "A taste of wine", because that's all you get! The spa itself is quite nice, and the massages we received were among the best we've ever had. We took 2 classes, Making Waves and Pilates, and both were enjoyable, although the former would have been even more pleasant had the indoor pool been heated. I don't think classes should be an additional fee, given the room costs and the resort fees. The locker room and jacuzzi area are small, and had a tough time accommodating the large number of guests that weekend. Finally, the inn draws an interesting clientele, given that it's right down the street from Mohegan Sun. We are not gamblers, so didn't think about this. Bottom line, if you're seeking a relaxing, high-end spa weekend, I would go somewhere else!

    Owner Response
Dear CTgirl77 - Thank you for your recent review. We are honored that you choose to share such a special occasion with us. It is unfortunate, however, that our accommodations and service did not exceed your expectations. We always urge guests of the inn and spa to address any concerns with management while on property so that they can react immediately and you can relax and enjoy yourself. So, thank you for doing just that. We've shared your comments with our management team as what you have described is not customary of a visit to our historic inn. We also received your email survey reply and someone from the inn will be reaching out to you directly. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Tim Kenyon, Director of Hotel Operations, directly at 860-425-3651 or via email at

  • Beautiful setting, great service, great staff.

This is a beautiful spot to go to particularly mid week. Weekends it can be a mob scene.
The services are very good. The gym is high end and has up to date equipment. The deck is lovely and nice to eat at. The dining room staff are extremely attentive. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The pub is fun and intimate with very knowledgeable bartenders. We have been coming for years but only mid week. By Thursday when we check out the crowds are forming.
