  • Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO

    by Jane A on 2017-10-18 01:43 pm

What a great experience! The Stanley is rich in history and ruggedly grand! The staff is exceptional. Sophie both checked us in and out and was so very friendly and accommodating. We arrived early. Sophie took our telephone number and called us as soon as our room had been cleaned and was ready. I highly recommend a visit to this historical and fun hotel!

  • 1st Time- Cant wait to come back (once i can afford it)

    by Meighan R on 2017-10-17 06:11 pm

room was beautiful as was the view- room was hot... but well ventilated with massive ceiling fan . front desk staff were very pleasant and sweet (remembered me next morning - name and all!lol) i was in the room next to the ice machine and it was STILL QUIET! very pleasant stay :-) only thing i would change is the price point - rooms could use some upkeep and refreshing if they want to charge 300+ a night

  • Not best value

The hotel is beautiful - great mountain views from the spacious porch. We had reserved a room for 4 nights at a price ranging from $270+ to $300 per night. We were shown to a very small somewhat dilapidated room facing the back of the kitchen building. We tried calling the front desk immediately to inform them that the room was not satisfactory - the phone didn't work. The pleasant attendant at the front desk moved us to a less disappointing room but it was still shabby (worn upholstery, peeling furniture finishes, dented radiator covers, etc) and not worth anywhere near the price they were charging. At that point, the spell was broken and we checked out 3 days early. Overall, a grand scale hotel in dire need of a facelift that charges as if it had already gotten the facelift.

    Owner Response
Thank you for the response, Randy. Sorry to hear the hotel did not live up to your expectations. The main building is indeed 109 year old hotel so it does have some character. We would encourage you to try our recently renovated accommodation at The Lodge, or the brand new Aspire Residences for your next stay. We hope to see you again soon.

  • Expected more for the price, but enjoyed the stay.

Okay. The hotel as a whole is lovely and the views are amazing. However the service and the details are not so amazing. We loved all the old pics throughout the hotel of the "old days". There are some amazing photos of the place from the past. The back deck has an amazing view, but the deck furniture was not comfortable and the cushions were dirty. There were dirty dishes all over the outside deck that were never picked up while we sat there for two hours. We went to the bar to get a drink and waited 5 minutes but were never acknowledge. Walked out. Our room was small but it's an old hotel so I didn't expect anything different. However, the comfort of the bed was probably not as good as the bed at the Econolodge which we stayed at on our way there. The bedspread had a stain, the bathroom had mold in the shower/bath, the hallway carpets were ripped and worn, the wallpaper was peeling away from the walls, the windows had cracks in them, there were chips out of the tile in the bathroom, the walls had scuffed marks on them, the small table in the room was worn and there were dishes in the hallway from the day before when we checked in. They were still there at 8:30 pm. I called the front desk and they said they would pick them up asap. An hour later they finally picked them up. There was construction outside the hotel when we arrived so we couldn't get to the main entrance. For $300 for a basic room I expected a little more.

  • You Know The Movie If Your Here You Stop In!

    by Gerald M on 2017-10-16 01:01 pm

Of course I traveled a bit to get here when I found out it was up the mountain.
They have a nice display to highlight the movie and a tour as well.
I wondered why Jack Nicholson just didn't go down to McDonald's for a bite instead of all that morbid outcome?
Looks like that small coffee shop is struggling. It changes every time I drop by and forget charging for parking.
I didn't get a chance to stay at the hotel as it looks like a nice place but I question the privacy for the money. Too much commotion and people milling around near the rooms.
