  • Overpriced and Poor Service

    Stayed in the Royal Suite for three nights for $2000 US. The Suite was under a gabled window, with a large living area, fireplace and king bed. The tiny balcony faced the ocean. Since this was the only window, the suite was incredibly dark. If you like to wake to a view of the water, a regular suite would be better. We had no hot water one morning. There is no minibar in the suite, no robes and no complimentary water. All of this was a bit of a shock given the extremely high seasonal pricing. But what was most extraordinary was the incredibly poor service at this hotel. There is no information about the hotel (or daily events) anywhere. We went to the restaurant for breakfast one morning. The young host and servers were standing around looking extremely confused. No one asked if we wanted a table or if they could help us. After 10 minutes I approached a lady with dark hair (the manager?) who asked me in an annoyed voice what I wanted. Ummm...table for two please? She motioned us to a table on the deck without walking us there. No one explained that there is only a buffet, and no one offered us anything to drink. We went to the buffet, a man who didn't seem to like his job made me an omelette (which was fine). Sausages had a weird texture. Breakfast came in at $60. It's hard to understand why any Canadians would go to the New England shore, when for the same price you can travel to the Caribbean where people are actually happy to serve you. It seems that this hotel hosts a lot of weddings. Perhaps they excel in that area? Would not stay here again and would not recommend.

  • Beautiful setting, newly renovated rooms, serene vacation by the beach

    Reserved 2 bed room on this resort last minute for 2 nights and had a pleasant vacation on the beach. Both pools are much smaller than what it appears on pictures and the beach seemed a bit crowded but do not let it spoil beautiful setting and very laid back atmosphere of this awesome resort. The swimming pool inside is way to hot and humid to be in on a summer day but one outside is awesome for the kids and families. It gets crowded fast so get your lounge chair ahead of time. Low tide is awesome and allows you to walk right on water to a nearby island. Rooms are brand new renovated and look outstanding. There is a ton of free parking onsite and also complimentary valet parking, which I think is an added bonus. The crowd is very polite and never gets loud. This is definitely a family friendly resort and we loved it there. Can't recommend restaurants because we never ate there but nearby Turtle Cafe and Bistro Mediterranean Tapas Bar were fantastic.

    My family and 1 (1 kid, mom, grandpa) spent one night at the resort, and had a ball!
    We didn't know that there was a live band playing in the evening so were able to enjoy that. You do need to pay extra to watch the band, so best to check what's happening there before you go, and if your not sure make a reservation because it was packed!

    The room was nice, no complaints there! Staff were friendly, and the pool and the little beach next to it were totally fine for one night.

    We didn't stay long enough but if you wait until 5pm when the tide is out there's a small island you can walk to from the hotel. MY ONLY complaint was that the food wasn't very good, and was quite expensive. We came from NY so we're used to that, but it was basically pub food.

    We have been staying at Saybrook Point for years but heard Waters Edge was beautiful and wanted a new experience!!! We checked in on a Wednesday as we had driven in from NY for a baby shower. The baby shower was at 11 am, room not ready of course as it was before check in, and asked to use the spa to freshen up and get dressed for the occasion. They would not allow us to use the spa but directed us to pool locker room. Hot, muggy, and wet. The outlets for the blow dryers did not work, and the lighting was terrible.

    We came back later that evening, checked in and decided to get dinner. The hostess quickly explained the difference between the two restaurants was confusing, so we just asked to sit on the patio - whatever that was. Our waitress was quiet, uninterested. She did not share the specials ( we heard it from other tables)- soup was cold, food took awhile. View is beautiful though.

    Upon returning to room we were still hungry from our lacking dining experience. We called room service hoping for a snack at 8:55- we were told room service closes at 9. Bizarre!!! Not only is that so early but technically it wasn't even 9- no interest in satisfying the customer.

    I then realized I needed at least a drink to take my prenatal vitamins. I went to the lobby to see if they had a vending machine or gift shop for anything to drink. Nope. Asked the front desk and they simply shrugged there shoulder and said "ask the bar"- the bar proceeded to charge me $8 for two half full glasses of OJ. Extremely disappointing.

    For the price, location, and prestige you expect from a "resort"- I'm not sure we will be back as a hotel guest. ?

  • Nice hotel but good use a few upgrades!

    My family and I recently stayed at the Water's Edge for my husband's 70th birthday. We booked 2 Villa that were on the beach. The accommodations were nice but the kitchen was understocked for what was advertised. Small things like salt and pepper, oven mitts, paring knife and scissors were missing. Also the sheets were tired- they need new linens. Some of the chairs by the pool looked like they needed to be replace. These were all small things that really did not impact our stay but things you would expect for the price we paid. The location is wonderful- right on the water and lots for the kids to do.
