Charleston’s antebellum splendors, gracious interiors, lush private gardens, fascinating people and enduring legacy of historic preservation take center stage on a custom–designed tour of South Carolina’s most grand historic city—one of our most popular. Historian and longtime Charleston resident John Meffert will show us the best of his hometown. Visit exquisite private homes and gardens in Charleston’s historic quarter. While in the Low Country, participate in special insider tours of Drayton Hall and Middleton Place—two outstanding Ashley River plantations—and enjoy true Southern hospitality at a traditional oyster bake hosted at a casual waterfront restaurant on Bowen’s Island.
Frequent study leader and historian, John Meffert is a long-time proponent of preservation. As former director of the National Trust’s Southern Office, John now serves as a consultant on heritage conservation services in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, where he has also served as the director of the Preservation Society of Charleston preserving the historic resources of the city.
