Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort Celebrates its 85th Anniversary

Tucson, AZ - 1929-2014, Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort is celebrating its 85th Anniversary as one of Tucson’s classic historic properties.

The Hacienda Del Sol has a dynamic history in Tucson; a historic jewel situated on 35 acres in the foothills of the Catalina Mountain range. In 1929, John and Helen Murphey created Hacienda Del Sol; a desert retreat, with many personal touches crafted by the Murphey’s. The property was originally a boarding school for the daughters of society's elite families. It later transformed into a favorite destination for many Hollywood screen stars, including Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.

In 1995, a group of local businessmen purchased the property and transformed Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch into a new league of historic boutique hotels with national and international acclaim. The hotel’s restaurant, The Grill, AAA Four Diamond Award winner for three years running was just voted one of the top 50 restaurants in Arizona.

To commemorate our 85th Anniversary and the Hacienda’s origin in 1929, a specialty cocktail will be featured each month of 2014. The first three will represent the prohibition years followed by monthly cocktails from the years of repeal. A final cocktail, for December, will be created by the Hacienda Del Sol Food & Beverage team.

We will unveil the new cocktails each month with an original piece of poster art depicting the cocktail, its origins and recipe, created by a local artist.

Beginning with March’s cocktail, we will be asking the community to become involved with a Facebook contest. Local artists will be asked to contribute their rendering of our Cocktail of the Month …more details of the contest will be revealed on Facebook and our website in January.
