The Lancaster Earns "Favorite Historic Hotel, Favorite Concierge" Titles In Locals’ Choice Awards
Houston, TX - May 15, 2014 – The historic Lancaster Hotel, a 93-room boutique hotel located at 701 Texas Avenue in the heart of the Downtown Houston Theater District, has earned top honors as Favorite Historic Hotel and Favorite Concierge in the inaugural VisitHouston.com Locals’ Choice Awards. The awards categories included hotels, the arts, nightlife, leisure activities and dining.
“We’re honored to be recognized by Houstonians for being their favorite historic hotel and having their favorite concierge on staff. As a family-owned and operated hotel for close to 88 years, it’s quite rewarding to see that our longstanding commitment to outstanding service is reflected through this competition,” said Brenda Anderson, General Manager, The Lancaster Hotel.
The Lancaster, which completed a $10-million renovation in 2013, earned a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation in 1984, and was accepted into the prestigious Historic Hotels of America, representing the Jazz Age, in 2010. It is the only historic hotel in Houston in HHA as well as Houston’s only hotel owned and operated by direct descendants of the original developer (Michele DeGeorge) dating back to 1926.
“Houstonians know what a wonderful, diverse and unique place we live in,” said Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We also know that locals are our own best advocates for getting more people to come to Houston. What we sought to do with the Locals’ Choice Awards was to showcase and honor the restaurants, nightlife, museums and other places that Houstonians love. We’re proud to promote these favorites – and we hope the businesses, and those who voted for them, spread the word and encourage friends and family to head to H-Town and experience it for themselves.”
