Originally a parsonage, Bårdshaug Herregård was purchased by architect, consul, and businessman Christian Thams in the 1890s. Thams had used his expertise as a carpenter and woodworker to renovate the site into a distinctive country manor. Over time, the estate became popular with many of Europe’s most illustrious aristocrats, such as King Oscar II of Sweden, King Leopold of Belgium, and Norway’s King Olav V. Bårdshaug Herregård is now a quaint vacation getaway in the bucolic town of Orkanger. Situated at the mouth of the Orkla River, the hotel features fantastic views of the Trondheimsfjord and its lush green surroundings. Orkanger itself is home to excellent salmon fishing, as well as beautiful wooden buildings that reflect the rustic culture of the area.

- Savor Fårikål, which is Norway’s official national dish. Cooked similarily to a casserole, Fårikål is made up of pieces of mutton that has been prepared with bone, cabbage, and whole black pepper.
- Taste another beloved national meal called kjøttkaker. This delicious Norwegian dish consists of richly seasoned minced meat, and is served alongside a variety of ingredients like onions, mashed potatoes, and steamed cabbage.
