  • Wildwood Bike Week

    by drftr09 on 2018-09-10 05:05 pm

Through the years I've been to "Roar to the Shore" bike week 7 or 8 times and stayed in Wildwood several times other than bike week as well. I tried several different hotels during my stays and really only found one or two that I wouldn't go back to stay. Most vacationers seem loyal to the hotel where they stay and yes this year I ventured off my beaten path for a different experience. Not to say I've been disappointed with past stays but variety is the spice of life. This time, on my second trip this year to Wildwood Crest, I decided on the Caribbean Motel. For me... it's easy to find and at a great location. The South end of the boardwalk is very close, several restaurants are walking distance and yes let's not forget about the beach, the beach is, what I'd call across the street. The OCEAN is a whole 'nuther story! I swear Wildwood has the worlds largest beach... but back to the motel review. First, if you've never been to the New Jersey shore, expect to be thrown back to a simpler time. Because that's just what Wildwood is... it's the best of a 50's and 60's vibe and the Caribbean Motel continues this feeling! It's exactly what I want in my New Jersey vacation. So.. I'm going to say this place is oozing with character. It's not a large resort, they don't have an Olympic size swimming pool and there's no concierge desk in the lobby for confused travelers. Instead expect a friendly staff that will help answer any of your questions or concerns. The pool is unique in it's letter "C" like shape and is perfect on a hot summer day to pad around and chill. The manager informed me of the pool hours but said if people are there and using it, they would stay open past their 8 o'clock closing time. Follow the original ramp and you'll find yourself on a second story deck and the "Cabana." This community room is unique and I can only describe it as George Jetson meets Fred Flintstone! A must see to fully understand and appreciate. Grab your favorite beverage, turn the big screen on to you favorite game and make some new friends. Okay.. now to my room, two beds, a small TV, a little kitchenette with a working refrigerator to keep your beverages and other goodies cold and a small bathroom. At times it can be tight, but I feel very manageable. Possibly my favorite part of this motel is the XM radio that plays and can be heard around the pool. They keep it on "50's on 5" or "60's on 6," playing tunes from that time period. One complaint, MAYBE, would be a day of "Margaritaville" could be played, but that's just my personal taste. Not only does this music play around the pool, but you can have it piped into your room as well, and I for one, took full advantage of this option. I loved it. It added another dimension to my Doo Wop vacation. So let me wrap this up... The staff were more like friends instead of uniformed workers paid to say, "Yes sir" and "No sir." They were there to help, share a conversation and make sure you were happy. My room was cleaned every day with plenty of fresh towels. There are plenty of other small goodies that the Caribbean Motel provides that make your Wildwood vacation unique. I really enjoyed my stay. My father who travelled with me enjoyed it too! I'm already talking about going back next summer and who knows, maybe I found my "bike week" home.

  • Just okay

I have stayed at the Caribbean Motel in the past and returned this year. The rooms and grounds continue to be clean. If you are looking for a nice sized pool though this motel isn't for you.

My husband and I stayed in a queen room which we did not realize was so much smaller than the king rooms (especially the bathroom). I kind of felt like my husband and I were tripping over each other the whole time we were in the room. This was okay since we weren't staying too long but I would have preferred more space and will go with a King room should we return.

There is a great BYOB Mexican restaurant literally right behind this motel (Bandandas) which is nice and it is also walking distance to the boardwalk so there's no need to drive and park etc.

When we checked in the staff recommended a new brew pub in town called Mud Hen which we ended up going to. It was a GREAT recommendation - the food is delicious and the drinks are fairly priced. It's a very modern day restaurant which will appeal to anyone especially those in their 20s and 30s. If you are willing to walk this is within walking distance as well so no need for a designated driver.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel if your priority is for a clean room that is convenient to the beach and boardwalk but I do agree with another reviewer that the prices are a little high especially for the queen room since it is just SO tiny.

  • fabulous experience!

Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, cleanliness, and vintage feel of this authentic 1950s motel! The owner and her staff are extremely accommodating and knowledgable about the area. The doo-wop music playing on speakers around the beautifully-landscaped grounds and in the rooms was my favorite nostalgic touch! The guests range from families with young children to senior citizen couples. We will go back to this Historic Hotel of America motel!

  • A Great Place to Stay!

This cute Retro hotel has everything you need to have a wonderful vacation in Wildwood NJ. From the colors and accents in the rooms to the music piped in to the rooms and the pool area, I feel like I am back in the 60's again. The rooms are clean and taken care of. Some rooms have a small kitchenette too! The staff are so nice and will help you with anything you need. They have special nights every week, like Wings night and Hot dog day. The food they make is free to all who stay with them. There is a BBQ grill and an area for small get togethers. Coffee every morning at the front desk as well as a coffee maker in the room. Laundry room, luggage carts and parking were awesome! Very friendly and family oriented. On the Historical listing! Just a short walk to Boardwalk and the pristine Atlantic Ocean and Beach. Wildwood, NJ is clean and safe for all. My husband and I will never stay anywhere else! See you there!

  • Wonderful

We have held our 1963 Class reunions at The Caribbean for several years, about every 3-5 years. It has always been a fabulous experience. The Party Room and Sundeck have been great places to gather, rain or shine. The management has been so accommodating. We have had great meals arranged by the management. The best part is the freedom we have had to laugh, dance, swim in the heated pool, and just be ourselves. Aside from safety rules, we can do what we want. No problem sitting and gabbing until the wee hours. We have looked at other venues and none can compare. Doo Opp experience or not, this is a wonderful, hisotric place, bright and comfortable. The owners and management are just terrific. They couldn't be more helpful. We love it!
