  • No doubt about No doubt about it, Iâd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Typically I stay in B&Bs or vacation homes, the Colony is a medium size hotel but with a small boutique hotel feel. They were very attentive when called upon and you saw the same faces each day. Breakfast was the norm for continental style but being able to sit outside on the front porch of the hotel and people watch first thing in the morning made it that much better. Actually the ambiance of the hotel itself gives you this warm feel like you belong there and you can just feel the history oozing through the place. Whether the lobby or your room, it takes you back in time but with all of today's amenities. They're an ecofriendly hotel who provides their guests with top of the line soaps and shampoos. A little thing, but it matters to some of us more picky folks. Then there's the extra bonus of this hotel having their own private beach area. Yes, its off the property but well worth it. (They offer a shuttle) The beach club was amazing! The food at the club was great, reasonably priced, and to have the use of umbrellas, lounge chairs, dressing rooms and rest rooms all within a short walk of the beach is priceless! And they have a huge salt water pool if you don't want to sit at the beach. Plenty of chairs available, nice and quiet. I didn't see many children/families, it was more couples (older couples) I was able to read at the pool, that's how quiet it was during Spring Break. I almost didn't want to write this review and share this gem of a place with anyone but that wouldn't be fair to the hotel so I'll end it with this....if you're a couple looking to escape and you're considering this place or the Marriott, don't think twice about picking the Colony!

  • Unusual hotel but still good!

    by Claire M on 2019-03-23 11:04 am

It was hard to see this hotel while I was driving down Atlantic Avenue at night as it's not lit up from the street and the entrance is at the back, so not exactly on Atlantic Ave. it's a little dimly lit in the lobby too. The complimentary breakfast was very good, hot and cold but so dark in that room I couldn't read a newspaper in there. The vib is old Florida with a laid back Key West feel that I eventually good used to. At first I thought I would leave after the first night as decor was so old fashioned but I eventually staid for the complete six nights that I booked. Why? Because the bed was comfortable and the room was clean and the high def TV had my channels, Fox and Bravo! The marble bathroom was the real redeeming feature. As well, I had those old fashioned narrow hardwood floors in my room and they are more sanitary than carpets. Plus the windows open so that is a refreshing feature these days. Their private beach club is a few miles away but they have a shuttle. It's lovely with great lunch food but only open from noon I think until two. But I found the cabanas very relaxing and not crowded.

  • Wow - What a find!

We loved the Colony situated in the heart of the shops & restaurants in busy, buzzy Delray. Its an old quirky colonial place with shiny wooden floors and brightly coloured decor throughout. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with old style furniture a huge comfy bed and a first rate modern bathroom. The breakfast was perfect for us - not huge but everything to get you going for the day (the coffee was particularly good). The staff were friendly and helpful and we loved the laid back vibe of the place. The beach club (a couple of miles away) was a wonderful surprise - fluffy towels, huge pool surrounded with sunbeds and palm trees, changing area with showers, delicious lunches and beautiful beach with cabanas & parasols. Will definitely be back.

  • Unusual

Where to begin! We often use historic hotels of America so we are very use to old! In fact seek it out!
Let's talk about the good first. Lovely old building with a very nice beach club in a nice setting! How can one complain about that? We spent a couple of hours there in the beach with a bottle of wine. You can bring in your own bottle...very nice.
The bar in the hotel was quaint and bartender friendly. The rooms were old and worn however.. unraveling wicker chairs, broken tiles in the bathroom, rusty old register! Noisy old window air conditioning units. Clean though, It did seem that.
I loved the original person operated elevator..campy. Too tricky for the guests to run themselves.
Breakfast was plentiful and good but had an assisted living feel with persons pushing food carts around tables and not much presentation.
All and all worth a visit but please up update a few things. Historic is one thing but old and rundown another.

  • Best location

    by Rob R on 2019-02-03 10:16 am

Perfect location, don't need a rental and avoid necessity for pay parking. If you want to somewhere else, Ft.Laud or South Beach, rent a car for the day. There is a shuttle caboose that goes all over the place and front desk should be able to supple you with golf cart pick ups, most are free, you just need to tip the driver a few bucks. Itn is an old charming hotel, just make sure your room has A/C. Google the picture gallery of hotel and rooms. I only recommend this hotel because it's location. 3 or 4 blocks to beach. Have fun.
