Great stay at the Cork Factory Hotel! Amanda at the restaurant/bar served us graciously and had wonderful recommendations for things to do the area! We took her advice and it totally made our trip! Friendly, professional... the whole package, thank you!!! Best Manhattan in Lancaster!

  • Cork Factory Hotel - Cork, Glass, Home-run.

    by Room-in-my-suitcase on 2019-12-02 08:22 am

The stylish and loft-like historic Cork Factory Hotel, Lancaster PA, was once home to a 19th century cork and then glass manufacturing plant. The structure has now been converted into a luxurious hotel while preserving the buildings industrial honour and history. The hotel is encompassed by a deluge of factory original brick walls and exposed wood beams. It was located near the Convention Center and downtown Lancaster's many boutique shops and galleries. A little farther out is Amish County, Hershey's Chocolate World and the Longwood Gardens (a beautiful place).

As I pulled up to the front entrance, I was greeted by a mountain of brick and a coal driven smoke stack that pillared up to the sky as if a 'garde de chien' for the Cork Factory Hotel. On the inside, I was amazed at the array of historic beams and trusses, horizontal and vertical, that have been repurposed, rebolted and rescrewed with new, heavy-duty industrial fasteners. A particularly innovative decor item consisted of large natural beams, dug out like an Indians canoe, and ornate in an array of flowers hanging unevenly from the structure and cloaked in a cluster of greenery... neat stuff.

Rooms featured original industrial elements with contemporary decor. My room was standard with interior original walls of uneven handmade brick ...with warps, pits and all, and a gorgeous beamed ceiling. Minimalism was the tone, furniture was sparse, but the surroundings exuded of raw charm and very comfortable. Baths were in keeping with the style of the room with granite adding a luxurious edge.

The Cork and Cap restaurant is a high definition restaurant where you can dine in plush leather banquettes along side resorted and brick walls where beams frame just about everything. It serves American fare in the form of Pennsylvania Dutch Dishes with a contemporary cosmopolitan twist. I tried their pan seared scallops, and grilled sweet and sour pork ......all good.....I had ice-cream too..but it's always good. The Bakers Table has a range of savoury and sweet snacks and you can get a front row seat to watch decorating artists turn out cakes and other sweet delights as you relax over coffee and fresh pastries.

I took a trip to Amish County and witnessed a lot of horse and buggies crowding the roads on the way. I went to a place called: Intercourse (perhaps indicative of what goes on here)..but no, their reputation is built around home made quilts. I bought one for my grandmother which supposedly took 2000 hours to complete.....and the price was a couple of times that figure. I also picked up some intricately made wooden pieces and a chocolate whoopee pie...whoopee.

So, if you would like to stay in a hotel that preserves and repeats its industrial heritage, is housed in a multiuser building where many guest-centric business are located as well as enjoy a fine jumping off point for Lancaster and area attractions....then try the..........

  • pretty hotel nice room noisy

    by katieb60 on 2019-11-06 08:10 am

at around 12:30 am a group of people were extremely loud woke me up gave a half hour for them to quiet didn't I called downstairs and asked if someone could come up to just tell them to tone it down a bit no one came, doors slamming loud talking continued until 3am. Asked for a wake-up call at 6:30 they called at 5:30 didn't consider time change so all in all would not recommend this hotel.
