  • Worth the price - superb service and amenities

    by NJ W on 2019-05-11 08:34 am

We've been coming here for 50 years, and my parents before then (and before Marriott) so we have lots of memories at this amazing property. Book main lodge for anyone elderly or ADA needs - the other buildings are a bit of a walk and restaurants (other than pool deck) are all in main area. Updated family pool area and adult only pool are great. Lots of activities to keep kids and adults busy. Good music in lounge. Fishing pier has some cane poles and shrimp in case you don't bring your own. Managers in restaurants were very personable and attentive, as was wait staff. Check in process very good. Marina building hall had old mildew type smell but rooms clean and location great for pool. Beautifully landscaped and lots of photo op areas. There's lots to say - great place for couples or families. Food is pricey and can add up - only real choice unless you drive in to Fairhope. Love the self sustaining gardens. and the game lawns. The staff is wonderful - from ladies cleaning restrooms to landscapers and maintenance - everyone was friendly and asked about our stay.

  • WOW Beautiful!

by piggytailchick on 2019-05-11 03:29 am

We had a couple of nights stay here during the Easter Holidays in April. The kids loved the pool and mini water slide. Water was a little cool but Ok once you were in, sure this will heat up during the summer! Amazing hot tub too. Loved the complementary kids craft activities and snow cones for the children. Great gardens, hammocks and swing chairs, plus traditional garden games (corn sacks, horse shoe, croquet etc). We were visiting from UK so it was lovely to see the history of the building and loved the decor.
BREAKFAST - Wow it was incredible. Super coffee and omelette made to order. The food was divine. Everything was tasty and fresh. The variety on display was the best I have ever had. We only had a light lunch (pizza) as we ate out in the local town in the evenings.

  • Southern Hospitality at itâs Best

    by lovingtravel2017 on 2019-05-07 09:08 am

We arrived early because we forgot the time change. The room was not ready but the hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. A gentleman with a golf cart saw us wandering the grounds told us to hop on. He gave us a complete tour of the grounds and the history of the hotel. At the end of his tour we were able to watch the firing of the cannon which is done every day. The hotel staff all feel very deeply about the history of this site and how the hotel participated first as a hospital during the civil war and then as a training ground during WW II.

The rooms are gorgeous. The spa is wonderful. They are right on the beach and they have swimming pools outdoor and indoor.

The staff go out of their way to great you. I feel like they genuinely want their guests to have a good time.

  • LOVE THIS HOTEL!!!

    by LTay1234 on 2019-05-07 08:12 am

I absolutely love this hotel. I was expecting it to be nice, but it was excellent. The service was definitely a 10 (one of the best we have ever had) everywhere from the valet greeter who welcomes you by name, the check in staff, the waitresses and waiters in the restaurants, the greeter in the lobby. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. There is an "old school" itinerary everyday with everything from crafts for the kids to a historian that tells you about the history of the hotel and the grounds. Everyday, they fire the cannon (as indicated on the itinerary) at sunset. We were here for 3 nights and I did not want to leave. You will not regret your choice to stay at the Grand Hotel. I cannot wait to visit again.

  • The Grand is Still Grand!

    by Blessed2BeHis on 2019-05-03 04:25 pm

I have stayed at The Grand several times. One of the things I loved was the rich history and the old and new buildings blended together with 200+ year old oaks w/ strategically placed palms on the grounds. It is the ultimate in southern hospitality! I have been both as a couples get away, with friends and with my daughter. This trip was my daughter and grandsons (3&6). I was a bit concerned because they have done extensive renovations over the last couple of years. I was wonderfully surprised at how they renovated, improved both the buildings and the grounds without loosing any of the charm. It is still the BEST PLACE TO RELAX. The staff are all super nice and helpful. I highly recommend.
