  • History and Comfort

After a number of years we returned to Salem and booked the weekend at the Hawthorne. The lovely young lady that checked us in asked about where we were from, how the travel was and was happy that we were back in Salem. We booked a standard room and laughed when we unlocked the door...it was a tad small. Next time we book a bigger room. The adorable room was spotlessly clean, so comfortable and the amusing loo facilities in the room were actually functionally comfortable. The Hawthorne is lovely, historic and so convenient to park and walk around this fabulous town. Lovely staff, lovely hotel and just the hotel you want to stay at.

The Hawthorne was a quiet historic hotel in the heart of Salem. Walking distance to the Essex Museum, House of Seven Gables and other historical landmarks. We especially enjoyed a spacious room featuring two bathrooms and the most crisp, fresh, and cozy bedding I've ever enjoyed.
I would have rated this a five star if not for the snooty hostess who could not bother to even look at hotel guests as she turned them away from their Sunday brunch, an apparently popular event for guests and locals alike!

  • Our dinner at the "Tavern" at the Hawthorn Hotel

We got together with some precious friends at the Tavern inside the Hawthorn Hotel. The ambiance is great the detail of the wood beams and the fireplace glowing with a warming fire was heart warming. Our meal was very good and we especially thank Abby our waitress for her friendliness and her attention to detail as she waited on us. Thank you and God bless you all.

  • Overnight in Salem

Lovely historic hotel; when my daughter and I got hungry later in the evening, the warm wood paneled Tavern on the Green bar was open for inventive cocktails and tasty food. Waitress was charming and helpful

  • Perfect Historical Hotel

I am baffled by how beautiful this hotel was:the outside, the inside, everything. The lobby had the air of a high-end hotel, while still remaining warm and cozy. The whole building seemed well-kept and the staff all super helpful and nice. Both the Tavern and Nathaniel's are also worth a visit and the food and drinks were delicious. I am just biding my time until I can stay here again!
