  • We went to have lunch but we just couldn't walk away.

    by Jamie C on 2018-07-03 12:36 am

I love an Old Character home, we came in for lunch and ended up staying the night on a random trip to Lake Geneva. We could not have had a better time, the restaurant was reasonably priced and good. Fri and Sat are the nights to go. Champagne toasts and dinner music. We stayed in the champagne room, we had our morning coffee in the second-floor study, best views!! Our butler did greet us but we were never able to reach him on the phone for service after that. That was the only issue we had and it's a weird one to have. I am already excited to go back.
Staff seemed very friendly but also maybe understaffed,

  • Not as spectacular as I'd hoped...

After reading the other reviews of the Baker House I had very high expectations. My husband and I were ready relax and enjoy some time away in the Versailles Suite. We arrived about 20 minutes before 4:00 and were not received well. When I rang the bell a lady came out of the back looking irritated. I apologized for arriving early and said we could go wait in the bar until 4;00. She was very short with me and told me there was no bartender, and to hang on, she would find someone. A minute later, Jonathan, the butler came in and very kindly took our shopping bags and walked us into the bar where Brent was waiting to pour us a glass of champagne. Jonathan went to the car, got our bags, took it all up, then came and got us from the bar. He walked us to our room and showed us around but I could tell he was in a hurry to get back to getting ready for the event that evening. We had been looking forward to, but did not get, a tour like so many other reviewers had mentioned.
The Versailles Suite is accessed from the second floor sitting room which gave us an uncomfortable lack of privacy. There was a couple in the sitting room on the sofa right outside our door for most of the late afternoon/evening. We were pretty sure that they could hear everything we said and did.
We participated in the Murder Mystery event, which was fantastic! We had a great time chatting with other guests and playing along although we did not solve the mystery! The show was interactive, hilarious, and fun. Unfortunately the 2nd event wasn't over until 10:30 or so and was held directly under our room; then people lingered at the bar making it difficult for us to sleep. It's an old house with seemingly inadequate insulation and soundproofing.
We were also disappointed that the canopy on our bed had been removed; it looked as if it had been sawed off. The room was smaller than it looked in the pictures and the bathroom was tiny. We felt that the room was overpriced and the service was just, "fine."

  • Prepared to get pampered here!

We stayed for two nights in early November in the Champagne Suite. The room was perfect in every way you could possibly imagine. The bathroom took my breath away. Free glass of champagne in their bar upon check-in (which at that time is not open to the public, so it was just the two of us and the bartender!). The butler service you have from the moment you walk in until you check out is unbelievable. I've never felt so spoiled--the customer service they provide is the best I've ever experienced. ANYWHERE. I felt like loyalty and didn't want to go back to reality. The view from the 2nd floor parlor (where the rooms are) is the best place to be to watch the sunset every evening. There is nothing like it. Don't be fooled by "just croissants and fruit" they serve you every morning. The croissants were the absolute best I've ever tasted. I wasn't expecting that at all. You will get plain, almond and chocolate filled. Overall a very relaxing experience. Since there is SO much to experience here, do not even think of staying here anything less than two nights. You will need at least that to get the full experience of this place. It was a great splurge for our anniversary getaway and would definitely go back!!

  • What a gem I found

Had the most wonderful time at the Baker House in Lake Geneva. Everything about it was special. Can't wait to go back..worth every dime if you're looking for an overall experience and not just a place to sleep. Immaculate, includes a delicious brunch, charming guest suite and community areas, excellent location and a wonderful staff that caters that can't do enough to make your stay outstanding.

  • Romantic Luxurious Stay

    by Yogagirl12_41 on 2018-03-25 06:19 pm

My husband & I decided we needed a romantic weekend away and booked the last available room at Baker House; the Champagne Suite. What a WONDERFUL room! Bedding was luxurious and oh so comfortable! I ordered champagne to be in the room and it was perfectly chilled, rose petals were scattered about the bed and bathroom. Accommodations were spacious. There were 2 chairs with footstools around our working gas fireplace. The bathroom was a dream!! The tile floor was heated and there were more shower "jets" than I could use, but it was fun trying them all and the walls are chalkboard so you could write messages to your loved one. Grateful for the water pitcher and water bottles left in the room to stay hydrated. room had plenty of storage for clothes or anything brought by guests. Like most old homes, there wasn't a closet, but space was made to accommodate hanging clothes

There is a private "salon" where guests have an amazing view of Lake Geneva, the first floor of the house is open to the public for cocktails, tea and brunch. This salon is your haven away from the bustle downstairs.

Staffing here is top notch. Their only desire appeared to be making sure we enjoyed every moment in Lake Geneva. Brent and Jonathan were amazing. Joshua who made the food did an excellent job and Adam the bartender saw to it we were well cared for. Lauren made sure the coffee and champagne flowed at the brunch beautifully.

Food: dinner was not served while there, but we ordered a tower of appetizers (scallops wrapped in bacon, chicken and beef skewers and tempura beans - all seasoned perfectly!) This was a delightful "dinner" enjoyed before the entertainment began. Very nice wine list bu the glass or by the bottle.
THE BUFFET IS A MUST! Great food variety. It's worth tossing your diet out the window for 1 day, trust me... the french toast with banana foster "syrup" was worth every calorie. Menu covers breakfast lovers and options for others who might want something more substantial. (PS: guests staying on property get the best tables, just another benefit!)

Checking out couldn't be easier. We left at 11:59, staying every minute we could until checkout. I waited to handle paying our balance only to discover Brent took care of everything and had treats and bottled water for the ride home.

NOTE: there are only a handful of rooms, so, book fast if there's a specific date you want.

Already working on planning a trip back. We'll stay longer next time.
