  • Excellent accommodations with great views

This hotel was comfortable and classy. The service in the lobby cafe was excellent. The server, Gina, went out of her way to accommodate our family of five and provided terrific service for breakfast.

  • Deserving of its accolades

Our last night in Alaska was at the Captain Cook. We requested for a room with water views and were given one despite the hotel being full. The service throughout was excellent from the door man to the concierge to the main desk and room service. The hotel offers great dining options so if you want to stay in that's an option. We didn't have time to try all of their facilities but from the small sample we experienced it was all good. When we visit Anchorage next this will be the hotel we will stay at.

  • Beware

    by 144car on 2019-07-20 07:40 am

Had business in Anchorage requiring that I stay for a week. I was told rooms were recently renovated/updated. After the first night at Capt. Cook I tried desperately to find another hotel.....unfortunately every hotel was booked. Where to start.....
Wall paper peeling, mold in bathroom, bathroom so small I could touch wall to wall, minimal towels every day, breakfast dripped so much oil I asked for a new one.....new one dripped oil so left hungry, no microwave, old mattress, noisy sheets, everyone had a hand out for a tip. I could go on and on. I took Uber from airport to hotel. The man that greeted me refused to allow me to take my bag out of the car. He took my bag into hotel and gave to another man who refused to allow me to take it to my room. Both said "company policy." What a hoot.
This hotel is definitely not worth what they charge for a room.

  • Classic Hotel

Our stay at The Hotel Captain Cook was the end of our cruise and land tour. Service was outstanding. Most associates had been with the hotel for many years and demonstrated genuine concern. The theme and large paintings added to the experience. Our room was very large and had a beautiful view. The hotel had several touches that would remind you of what it was like to stay in a quality hotel 20 years ago, but without being stuck in the past. Very nice shops and restaurants too.

  • Gone way downhill.....

by davidsandiego on 2019-07-19 08:46 pm

Place has just gone really downhill. Rooms are very basic in need of updating. Drapes don't even block out the light which is really important in Anchorage (and only hotel I've seen here that doesn't block out well). WIFI is just awful - I end up using my hotspot on my laptop instead. Most of the bars are mediocre at best - good drinks, bad food. Gym is decent but often filled with obese men that insist on working out with their shirts off - not sure if that's an Alaska thing but it turns my stomach every time (BTW - rules say shirts required all time, staff just ignores the violators). Today my room wasn't even cleaned - I was out by 730am and came back at 9pm and nothing. Never seen that anywhere - sometimes I've seen hotels clean late, but don't even look at? This hotel is a few levels below a Holiday Inn Express and the only reason it's getting 2 stars is because it is still kind of Alaska cool with the Captain Cook paintings all around.
