  • Wedding Party - six rooms

    by SallieW204 on 2019-04-06 09:36 am

We rented six rooms at Hotel La Rose for our wedding. The reception staff ( special thanks to Liz and Manager Jeff) went out of their way to make everything perfect for us. Our guests were delighted with the charm and outstanding service at this historic hotel. Sallie and Bart

  • Grandma Room

    by The_McSmiths on 2019-03-04 09:57 am

To be fair, I am a person that likes a more modern look and technology. However, from the reviews and photos, this place looked special and charming. First we couldn't figure out where to park, and you can't stop your vehicle right in front of the hotel. So, I jumped out of the truck while my husband did a lap around the block. She told me to park diagonal across the street behind the coffee house. So, I then tracked my husband down and we parked there. We lugged our bags across the street (since there is nowhere to drop off in front) and checked in. Then, we got a parking pass to hang in our truck window so had to go back to the truck again to place that (of course you know it had to be raining this whole time). We stayed in the building where we checked in. The lobby was cozy looking and the hallways were nice with antiques. We walked in our room and it was huge! That was very nice. It was also very clean. And my husband thought the toilet was cool as the back of the toilet was hanging up in the air! The bathroom was fine. There was little room to put any toiletries. Thank goodness that the old building had large window sills that suited my make-up bag and brush just fine. Unfortunately the bed was lumpy. It wasn't terrible but definitely not comforting. And then, we heard the street cleaner in the early AM hours. The furniture in the room just seemed more like old furniture than antiques. The room was large enough to have a mini-frig, but it did not. We had a cooler in the car thankfully for the cheeses we bought for while we toured wine country. They didn't have an ice maker open to customers, but we asked at the desk and the kitchen gave us a Ziploc bag of ice for our cooler which was nice. Breakfast was just the standard continental that you get in a 3 star chain hotel. It was fine. I guess we expected something a little more homey in this setting. Location was great! We were able to walk to places for dinner and drinks, so that was very nice. I would suggest trying the carriage house as the photos of those rooms look a bit nicer, but then I thought the photos of the main building rooms looked nice too. From the web-site it also says they have balconies at the carriage house which may have been nice if we had better weather during our stay. Overall, the stay was fine and it suited our purposes.

    Dear McSmiths,

Thank you for your recent stay with us and for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry that your arrival experience was challenging. You may not have noticed that we have check-in parking along the white curb right in front of the hotel. Thank you for mentioning the issue with the mattress in your guest room. The mattresses in all of our rooms were replaced eighteen months ago, though it is clear that yours needs attention. I am pleased that you enjoyed many of the aspects of your guest room. On your next visit, you may want to try a room in our Carriage House. The furnishings are farmhouse motif, and as you mentioned, each room has a balcony or patio. Thanks again for your visit. I hope that you may consider us again on your next visit to Santa Rosa.

  • Very lovely historic hotel

by TeQuieroPV on 2019-02-03 06:03 pm

I spent 4 nights at Hotel La Rose (in 2 different rooms with different family members). Free parking is adjacent to the hotel behind a coffee shop on the corner.
The lobby is scented with a beautiful rose scent. It might present a problem for people sensitive to smells or who have allergies. (I loved it.)
There is an elevator for the 3 floors and a wheeled luggage rack to transport your bags. I asked to use it but did not ask for help and none was offered.

There is an extensive continental breakfast available (fresh made waffles, fruit, HB eggs, toast, muffins, cold cereals, tea/coffee, juices, etc.) open from 7 am to 9 am. There are tables or you can bring the food back to your room.
We had 2 queen beds in the room and each had good quality linens and pillows. We did not watch TV during our stay.
The bathroom had a blow dryer and all the individual sized personal bathing items. It had adequate lighting and plenty of hot water. The shower was small, a large person would have a hard time bathing. (I'm 5'6", 190 lbs. and had very limited room-I could not extend my arms fully.) Also, the toilet is very close to the wall on one side and a heavy-set person may be slightly uncomfortable with their arm up against the wall. (Remember-it was built in 1907 when there were no building codes.)
The toilet tank is near the ceiling (like in olden times) and you use a pull chain to flush the toilet. Our chain broke but the management was quick in reattaching it. There were plenty of good quality bath and hand towels and wash cloths. We refused daily maid service but they were prompt in giving us more shampoo as needed. The front desk attendant kindly looked up something on the internet and printed it out for me.

The room heater was easy to operate, worked well and we were comfortable at all times. For both rooms we got a corner unit (with 2 windows for more light).

I could have booked the reservations on an internet booking site and gotten a better deal but, from what I've experienced, booking through an internet service is less than accomodating (too many poor reviews about mixed up reservations, difficult check-in, etc.). I called the hotel directly and asked for the best price I could get. They were unable to match the internet booking price but they discounted the normally priced room by $20.

The hotel is right across the street from a coffee shop (not very friendly staff but good coffee and great pastries) and from the commuter train. It is very close to many good restaurants also (a French restaurant, an omelet restaurant, Chevy's).

The hotel was built in 1907 and is very well kept. It is too bad that the adjoining restaurant was closed and under construction during our visit.
The first room had 2 easy chairs and an end table with a coffee maker and the second room had a large desk with chair and a coffee maker.

Aside from the shower, it was a wonderful experience and I would stay there again.

  • Nice change from run of the mill hotel

    by Caroline M on 2019-01-15 03:00 pm

This hotel has a lot of history in it - and it's well kept considering. I liked my room and the bed was comfy. There is a fantastic coffee place across the street and Jackson's restaurant around the corner makes for a nice dinner/drink experience. Nice stores, too.
I recommend that the hotel take the breakfast up a notch - fresh fruit, great and hard boiled eggs - but greek yogurt and granola would make it a step above.
