  • Very comfortable and welcoming hotel

by PetrVelik on 2019-11-07 03:00 pm

The hotel occupies an excellent, central location. Our spacious, spotless room offered a firm and comfortable king bed, ample storage space, two luggage racks, a nice wooden floor, and the best room lighting we have experienced. The small refrigerator had no thermostat to adjust, and was set too cold, freezing our yogurt. Although a pair of windows opened onto a courtyard, they had no screens, and we did not dare open them on account of the bugs.

The ample bathroom had a large counter, strong illumination for shaving, and large towels of high quality.

The included continental breakfast was enhanced with two cooked choices: tasteless hard-boiled eggs and oatmeal. Our egg yolk was so pale that it was clear that its mother never left her cage. The oatmeal was acceptable. The fresh fruit cup varied by day in choice and quality.

The hotel staff were friendly, agreeable, and helpful.

The hotel abuts a public parking lot, where guests park for $17/day.

The air-conditioning fan had only two settings: off and wind tunnel). The grille on the air outlet diverted half the air toward the ceiling and half toward the bed. With the thermostat set normally at night, ice-cold air would blow every now and then directly onto the bed, waking us. With the thermostat set too high, we were spared that annoyance, but at the cost of a hot, airless room. We finally resorted to overcooling the room before retiring, then boosting the thermostat to avoid calling for cold blasts during the night.

  • Southern-style "quaintness" typically lost in other towns but brought back well in SC.

    by Douglas P on 2019-11-07 03:21 am

The location of this hotel is PERFECT for walking around King Street and downtown Charleston. The staff are wonderful and someone is at the front desk 24/7. The rooms are small and the shower even smaller (especially with the ADA handle bar) but the nostalgic "quaintness" is real. They serve wine each early evening and folks gather to talk. The room was easily cooled down and has the usual amenities for a hotel room. The key is an ACTUAL key so do NOT lose it! The TV had minimal channels but the bed was comfortable although it has down pillows which is not my favorite. I would stay here again primarily for the location. There are a few other hotels like this in the area but this one is less expensive. Also, they do have parking in the back for an extra fee.

  • 4 day weekend

    by Mike B on 2019-11-06 09:21 am

Comfortable room, courteous and friendly staff. Great location. Everything was within a short walking distance. We parked the car and never moved it until the day we checked out. Wi-Fi reception was not very good on the third floor.

  • Friendly accommodations in great location

Very friendly and helpful staff. Offered suggestions helped us with transportation. When there was a minor water leak in our room they quickly moved us to another room that was just as nice or better. Breakfast was nice and service was always polite and friendly. Great location to walk most everywhere in downtown.

  • Charming

My room overlooked the antique shops on King Street. There was very good water pressure in the walk in shower, nice towels and soaps, a small refrigerator and comfy bed. I appreciated the complimentary bottled water in the ice chest in the courtyard as well as the generous continental breakfast and evening wine hour. These amenities made the experience much better than a basic hotel. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. There are many good restaurants nearby and advanced reservations are recommended.
