In the heart of Lillesand and behind its historic façade sits the private owned Lillesand Hotel Norge. The hotel welcomes its guests with modern facilities and comfortable guestrooms, while also taking guests back in time through its historic interior and atmosphere. Guests can stay in the same guestroom as Knut Hamsun or have a meeting or private party in the room that the Spanish King Alfonso XIII stayed, and proudly signed the mirror with his diamond ring. The construction themes are referred to as “byggeskikk,” and this concept drew its inspiration from generational construction techniques that go back centuries. - Explore Høvåg Church, a medieval church that dates back to 1150. Originally, the church was 10 meters long and built completely using stone. But in 1723, it was expanded to twice its size. The congregation bought the church from King Frederick IV (1671-1730) when he experienced financial distress after the Great Nordic War. The renovation on the church began shortly after it was purchased, with the extension and extensive maintenance taking place. The west wing of the church was built in 1768, while the north wing, which is the church’s main entrance, was built in 1828. Meanwhile, the structure’s notable tower was built in 1831. The church remains a prominent, well-preserved historical landmark in Lillesand today.
- Visit Høvåg Museum on any trip to Lillesand, Norway. The Høvåg Museum displays an antique collection of the treasures of Høvåg, that dates back to the 18th century. The museum was actually once the home of a farmer and sailor who would ship goods. The museum is furnished just as it would’ve been when the family owned it in the 18th century. The Høvåg Museum and History Association was founded to preserve this farm and the sailor’s home as important to the cultural heritage of the city.

The historic farm is a reenactment settlement from the Bronze Age, also known as, The Viking Period. The reenactment grounds feature a Viking market with handcrafted goods that one would find during this historical period. It also features a gallery café, pottery workshop, and classroom for kids to join in on the fun, as well. Bronseplassen Viking Experiences also offers traditionally-roasted legs of lambs for an authentic Viking experience.
- Spend the day at the zoo discovering Scandinavian animals at Kristiansand Zoo. The Zoo is Norway’s most frequently visited attraction that covers over 150 acres of Nordic terrain. The Zoo features animals that are native to Scandinavian land, such as wolves, elk, lynx, foxes and many more. The Zoo also features a rainforest exhibit that makes guests feel like they are deep in an actual rainforest, with mist and a humid atmosphere. This exhibit contains crocodiles, alligators and many other reptiles. The Zoo features over 800 different species and is the perfect place to spend the day with family or friends.
