  • Great Hotel

My first time in Hawaii was and experience I will always remember. I am so glad we chose this hotel. It is reasonably priced and located near the main strip. The staff is friendly and I look forward to staying there again.

  • Worth a visit!

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel has a nice feel. Kind of like you are at Disneyland but in Hawaii. Lots of comfortable places to sit and people/view watch. Lots of action. The rooms are very small and can be loud. We are Platinum Elite and had a front view of the ocean.

  • All looks, no substance

I booked 4-nights here with my husband and our 3 young children upon the advice that the Moana Surfrider was one of the nicest hotels in Oahu. On the surface, yes - it is a gorgeous hotel and its location right on Waikiki beach and in the centre of the strip is immaculate. However, the perks, in my opinion, end there.
Upon arriving with at least 12 pieces of luggage, a pram and toddler and the rest of my family, the bell hops completely overlooked us at the front door - they were more pre-occupied with taking photos of the bridesmaids at a wedding that was happening there. And once inside, at least another two bell hops walked straight past us without offering to assist. We took all the luggage up to the room ourselves!
We had an ocean front room which had lovely views of the beach, but the air conditioning was so loud, we couldn't have it on at night which made for restless sleeps all round. The walls were also paper thin - I heard someone having a coughing attack every night in the room next door. Also, for such a big hotel - the pool is tiny and basic.
I am not one to complain and I am more than happy to pay for a luxury hotel, but I would expect the service and amenities to match the price tag. After staying at the Hyatt Regency in Maui immediately prior which came with a proper island welcome with leis and loads of family-friendly facilities etc, Moana felt cold and unwelcoming with unhappy and unfriendly staff.
I won't be staying here again.

  • Beautiful hotel, top location, but no space near the pool.

Stayed 4 nights in the older part of the hotel and enjoyed our visit. Right on the beach and in the middle of Waikiki. Nice room and the street noise did not bother us too much but it was evident each night. Drinks are expensive but the setting is great and the entertainment good too. Our only gripe was trying to get a deck chair near the pool which we were never able to do. On most occasions the chairs were vacant for hours but had been "claimed" by other guests or visitors with a towel or shopping bag. 40-50 deck chairs, a dozen people in the pool and and many chairs unoccupied but "claimed", management needs to look into this.

The Moana Surfrider is a wonderful hotel sitting right on the Pacific Ocean. Very friendly staff. The only draw back we experienced was the Beach Club having the same things out everyday, I think Westin Hotels could do a much better job at this,
