  • Exceptional everything

    by 719bobc on 2020-02-28 04:15 pm

We booked a stay to snowmobile. We got stranded in a storm up north, and Mountain View was kind enough to allow us to cancel our 2nd night reservation without penalty.
Even if they would have charged us something for the late cancellation, I'd probably return. The property is beautiful; very well maintained; and customer service was all outstanding. We WILL return; we loved it.

  • Great Family Ski Weekend

Excellent stay as usual. However, there must have been something going wrong in the kitchen because all of our meals were served really cold. We have stayed twice before and this wasn't the case either of those times.

  • Beautiful hotel from another time, another era...

    by Lilac5477 on 2020-02-23 01:42 pm

Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH booked me a room at this beauitful hotel so I could interview with their staff. The hotel is amazing with the best exercise room I have ever encountered on a hotel property, a sauna, pool, gift shop, room service, daily activities for guests and so many "nooks and crannies" to explore I wish my stay had been for leisure and not for work! Best of all are the surrounding White Mountains. This i truly a grand property!

  • Family fun (mouse included)

    by Trail44166385551 on 2020-02-21 04:11 am

As a family, we stayed at MVG for 5 days during presidents' week in 2020. We have been coming here the same week for over 10 years so we have a baseline to compare against.

Positives - lovely views of the mountains; updated hotel rooms; good food at restaurant; excellent waiter service; early morning coffee available at 5 am; great "farm" tour with goats, chickens, llamas, alpacas, rabbits - kids/adults all loved it; live pianist most nights playing soft jazz in lobby (lovely).

Negatives - Mouse in room running to and fro (hats off to Ethen in guest services for handling the mouse situation); prices have gone up but the overall service level has not improved commensurately (housekeeping is extremely spotty at best); service of common area restrooms needs to be done more often and with greater care - particularly in the early morning.

Overall, a good place for families but if MVG is intending to charge higher prices, it needs to improve its weaknesses to justify such prices (and eliminate the mice)!

    Owner Response
    Dear Trail44166385551,

Thank you for your feedback here on TripAdvisor as well as your continued patronage. I am glad that you and your family enjoyed your visit overall, but please accept my apologies for the wildlife in your room and the service levels you experienced. As I know you are aware, our rural location and the fact that parts of the building are over 150 years old, make pest management is an ongoing priority. We have staff specifically focused on mitigation and I understand that wildlife in the building is unsettling. Please trust that we are committed to providing an excellent resort experience and your feedback is helpful in achieving that goal. I do hope you will consider visiting us again in the future.

  • School Vacation Getaway

by CruisinNewEngland on 2020-02-19 01:40 pm

We recently stayed at the Mt. View Grand as a quick school vaca getaway with kids. Our intention was to find a resort where we could park and not leave--with many indoor/outdoor activities and the opportunity to simply relax! Overall, we were pleased with our stay and the amenities the hotel offered. However, there were some areas of improvement:

PROS: The charm and history of the hotel was amazing. We loved the decor and even appreciated the short video about the history of the hotel. There was plenty to do for the kids and we took full advantage of sledding, visits to the farm, pool, game rooms, theater, popcorn, hot chocolate, skating, fire pit, s'mores, bingo (my 5 year old's favorite!) and the kids play place. The grounds and views were gorgeous and overall the staff was very friendly (esp the bellmen, farmer and the restaurant manager).

CONS: The Harvest Tavern food. Mediocre at best which was disappointing considering the cost. The entrees were $$$ and judging by the quality of the mid-priced options we never ordered a higher priced meal. We figured it would be a total waste of money. The service was inconsistent as well--slow at times with us having to remind wait staff of requests when we didn't receive.

Also, our room was cleaned very late in the day and one day was never cleaned. When we mentioned that to the front desk, it was promptly cleaned while we were at dinner.

In summary, I'd love to say we will return as the kids had a blast and didn't want to leave. I'd be interested in learning what the hotel offers in the summer. However, for the price of the stay I expected a little more as it relates to dining quality.

    Dear CruisinNewEngland,

Thank you for your candid feedback here on TripAdvisor. I am glad that you enjoyed many aspects of your stay, but please accept my apologies for the service and food quality issues you that expereinced in the Harvest Tavern. I have addressed your review with Oral Kelly, our Food & Beverage Director, as well as Barbara Beckwith, our Director of Restaurants. I have also reviewed the housekeeping service issues with our Housekeeping Team. Please trust that we are committed to providing an excellent experience, and your feedback pushes us to work harder each day to achieve that goal.

I do hope that you will consider another visit in the future, perhaps in the summer as you mentioned. The summer season is the busiest for the resort, and is a wonderful time to enjoy the White Mountains.

    Warmest regards,
