  • Beautiful and roomy suites, limited housekeeping

    We love staying at the Newport Beach Hotel and Suites because of all of the room in the suites and the indoor pool and multiple hot tubs. The staff that we encountered on our last trip was friendly and accommodating.
    Unfortunately, we noticed a few shortcomings on our last trip. Housekeeping is very limited. If you are in your room when they come by initially, they do not come back later - your room is skipped. We had to ask for housekeeping multiple times, request new towels and trash removal. When housekeeping did come they did not refresh everything that had run out (we ran out of toilet tissue in the bathroom).
    Also, the website indicates a well-stocked kitchen, which we found a bit lacking. It appears that as items were lost or broken they were never replaced. There were two drinking glasses, three spoons, one butter knife, etc.
    Finally, when we received our check-out bill upon checkout we noticed a $12/day parking charge added to our total. We reviewed our reservation and this charge is mentioned in the small print but not included in the reservation total.
    Overall, we would likely stay again but only at a discounted rate because the room amenities described on the website do not match what we encountered.

  • 3 night stay - bugs in room

    This hotel has 2 sites which are across from one another.

    The Historic location is where the front desk is and is across the street from the parking area which is $12 per day plus tax. This location has a gym and spa, they also have a bar/restaurant but it is not being serviced.

    The new location which is in the parking lot area has a pool/hot tub which is indoors and a roof top seating area and hot tub which was not working during my stay.

    My stay:

    CHECK IN: When I got to the hotel, they had plenty of parking and we walked across the street to the front desk to check in. Two people were there neither of which greeted us when we walked in and were whispering to each other and continued their conversation while I stood there waiting. I did the check in process and was given my key and went on my way.

    HOTEL: I stayed in the "historic building" , I recommend taking the stairs because the elevator is very slow and seems unreliable. We were on the second floor and were right next to the ice machine. This was probably the worst area because of foot traffic noise at all hours and the door to our room was not flush with the floor. The room was nice and updated but it definitely had a layout flaw. The bed was cornered in the room and you would have to climb over each other to get out of bed. The bathroom was nice but the shower was small and reminded me of getting into a spaceship. The AC was definitely old because it made a lot of weird noises and didn't seem to fit correctly into the wall cutout. Now mind you I stayed here to sleep and shower not to eat or hangout in he hotel. Day 1 we found ants crawling in the bathroom and on the nightstand. I just killed them and did not mention anything. Day 2 I went out and came back to the hotel and found ants now in the bed and also a creepy crawling bug. I definitely did not want to sleep in that bed and called down to ask to have the bed sheets changed and did not mention the bugs a first. They said that the cleaning services were done for the day but once the bugs were mentioned they said they would change the sheets and spray the room. I left for the remainder of the evening and returned to the room with still the smell of bug spray and still found ants running around. I was done complaining, I had one more night after this and I just killed the bugs myself for the remainder of my stay. Also the room keys we had randomly deactivated themselves and we needed to go back down the get new ones.

    LOCATION: I have to say the location of this hotel is really good, your not in the heart of Newport where the shops are but you are a $7 uber drive to the town and you can walk 10 mins to the shops from there. Also across the street from many bars/food place and the beach. It is also down the road from the cliff walk which was and extra plus to not have to drive and find parking for that. We ate at Flo's and Tickets (upstairs) and bar (downstairs) both were really good. We also went into town and ate and the hungry monkey and corner caf? for breakfast. The fifth element is a nice bar scene but food was not worth the calories.

    OVERALL: For the price of staying at this "luxury" hotel it was definitely not luxury it falls into the range of your stand chain hotel without room service. If I would stay here again it would be to stay in the new location since they probably don't have bugs crawling around but that's only because I really liked the location of where the hotel was situated.

  • A huge disappointment

    This was a very big disappointment. The rooms had poor cleaning. We had to ask for tissue ,towel, coffee craft. The air condition was either freezing or hot. The bathroom was tiny with nowhere to put your items. It was very over priced and you had to pay to park. I would not recommend this hotel.

  • Stay here!

    The only reason we found this place was because of the price. Very affordable! We stayed in the old hotel and had a marvelous view of the bay. We had the two separate room queen suite. My son had his own tv! Too bad mine didn't work, but I loved looking out the window. We walked across the street to the small beach and played in the salt water. We also walked to the nearby restaurants. Not a destination, but a must stay if you are in the area.

  • Amazing stay in the suite building

    We had a 2 bedroom suite. I was amazed of the quality of the selection of furniture and fixtures the owners chose for the room. They did not skimp on quality. Better than a Marriott! I've stayed in 4 and 5 star resorts that don't come close to the quality craftsmanship of the room. Soft bed linens, speakerman shower heads, soft towels...very impressed! Spacious room. The 2 bedrooms face the ocean side while the 1 bedroom face the pond side. Room was clean but could use just a little more attention but it was very good! Pool was small but nice with jacuzzi, they had towels at the pool and a TV!! Rooftop was nice for sunsets and had a large jacuzzi. Right across from beach, several restaurants in walking distance, Cliffwalk is a 20 min walk from hotel, easy to do. I was very pleased and would love to go back again! Not many places in the Northeast that are updated and this place is fairly new. Stay in the suites building and ignore the negative reviews. The pictures don't do it justice.
