  • July 2019 Yellowstone Vacation

    by Luke M on 2020-04-22 06:46 am

We stayed at the Old Yellowstone Inn for 1 night of our 5 day 6 night YNP trip July 11-16th, 2019. We stayed on the second floor and had direct views of the Old Faithful geyser (I believe there are only a few rooms with this view and I can't remember room numbers). The rooms are very basic with little amenities, but you're paying for location.. lodging here isn't a must for exploring the geyser basins, but it does help being so close. It's nice to have early and late access to the basins when the boardwalks are less populated without having to wake up hours before daylight or drive extended periods in the dark following sunset.

The main lobby of the inn is amazing! The rest of the building isn't very impressive. There are cheaper lodging options available in this area, but they are hard to come by.

While staying here, we had dinner reservations at the Obsidian Dining Room. I don't remember being overly impressed by the food. That being said, I don't think I was impressed with any of the food we had in the park throughout our entire trip.

I probably wouldn't book lodging at the Old Faithful Inn again simply due to pricing. The neatest feature of the Inn (the lobby) can be accessed without booking here.

  • Best location!

    by Gary L on 2020-04-13 11:49 am

Great gift shop. Great location. Great warm fire going in lobby. Hotel brimming with history and redolent with character. Old faithful is out the back door. Expensive -but beats driving 50 miles to lodging outside the park. Rooms basic but clean , old faithful inn does NOT have WiFi. Our room has no tv. Hallways slightly musty but only slightly. Bed is great. Staff wonderful. If you want your own private bathroom and shower, specify that or you might not get that. Walls are a little thin. All things considered, nice hotel, come stay here and enjoy Yellowstone tremendously!

  • Rustic and Historic

We didn't stay here, but while visiting Old faithful Geyser we took a look at the Inn. Wow! So rustic and full of history. Definitely worth sometime to walk around inside or just sit in the lobby and gaze up.

  • Historic lodge

This lodge is right in the heart of the park, steps from Old Faithful. I stayed here for 2 nights as part of my caravan tour.

The plus's it is right in the heart of the park, you can walk outside and see Old Faithful erupt at any time. I watched it erupt one morning at 5:30 a.m. with only 4 or 5 other people out there. You can also get an early start or stay late to check out everything in the Upper Geyser Basin.

My room was decent sized not that small, the bathroom was a little tight. There is no wi-fi or tv in the room. I got lost several times on the way to the room as it is a little tricky figuring out what floor you are on.

You definelty want to make a reservation if you want to eat in the main dining room, the bar wasn't that crowded when I went for dinner. Their is always a big line for the breakfast buffet in the morning.

There are lots of people in the lobby during peak park times checking out the lodge, shopping killing time before Old Faithful or hitting the restroom.

  • Such a majestic place

I could have spent my entire vacation sitting in the lobby. It is rich in history with a rustic feel, a truly must see if you're going to Yellowstone. I'm so glad I made it a priority. Mammoth Hot Springs looked nice, but Old Faithful Inn is like stepping back in time.
