  • Wonderful Building

Great Inn, well located in the park. Does get busy but not surprising, it's such an iconic building with so much to see immediately around it, including of course, Old Faithful.

We booked a year in advance and managed to get a coveted old room with private bathroom in the old inn. The room was much better than I thought and I liked walking up through the Inn to our room passing through the historical wooden structures. The bathroom had a massive clawed foot tub which I enjoyed. The room got quite hot, but we just opened the windows. You can hear through the walls if you're unlucky enough to have loud speaking neighbours, but this didn't disturb us at night.

Only point to note, don't leave anything edible out in your room whatsoever unless you want to share it with the resident mice. We stayed 2 nights and they only visited on the first night when I'd left some wrapped mints out by mistake!

  • Iconic stay. Prep will definitely help.

Visited right after peak season ended & loved it. While pricy, the staff is great, the location is historic and there is enty to do in the immediate area.

Eating in Yellowstone is *rediculously* expensive. None of the rooms have fridges, so you essentially have no choice but to pay the exorbitant concessions prices (at the lobby coffee shop, a cold ham & egg breakfast sandwich is $9!). If I'd have it to do over again, I would've brought a mini fridge and packed in my own groceries. Would literally have saved hundreds.

The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable and the Second floor deck is a great spot to hang out with drinks and watch Old Faithful.

Another perk to staying here is that while the hoards are flocking in to see Old Faithful in the morning, you can go elsewhere, dodging the crowds since you can step right out and see Old Faithful whenever you like.

There is plenty of food in the area, but our favorite - and one of the best priced - was the grille at the grocery store/gift shop next door.

One last high note was the nightly live music played in the Lodge common area. If you can find a seat, sitting and enjoying the music was a nice way to unwind after a busy day.

Overall, the expense was worth the visit.

  • What a beautiful place!!!

What a beautiful place to go and stay. It was on my bucket list and now I can mark it off. The only problem that I had was there were 3 of us with only 1 bed and I had to sleep on the floor. We were in room #1. We brought it to the attention of the motel and they said they could not do anything about it... the one bed with 3 people. that was disappointing but I would love to stay there again. the food was wonderful too!!! Very rustic. I felt at home while I was there.. All of the staff were very nice.

  • Historic and beautiful; see all the geisers on property

Sometimes it's helpful to write a review some months after a trip so you can focus on what stays with you and a lot stays with me from our trip here with my husband and 6 year old. First of all, the building itself is a historic trip of nostalgia with its big log construction and massive mutli-level lobby. Children and adults want to explore it and personally I found its labyrinthine corridors to be part of the fun. I enjoyed sitting on the second level of the hotel and watching old Faithful erupt below. There are so many geysers on the hotel grounds that you can spend a couple of days walking around and watching all of them. Several erupt pretty regularly. The best times for a walk are right after breakfast or later in the afternoon as the sun is punishing but when it is not at its highest it is so lovely out there. The rooms are rustic but comfortable. The food was fine given it's not a destination for luxury and cuisine; it's all the gorgeous nature.

For planning your trip: we spent two nights here and then drove to the Yellowstone Lake area and stayed in the Lake Yellowstone Hotel for several days which is a good base for the Canyon area and Hayden valley to see all the animals (Lake Yellowstone Hotel has the best restaurant in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons if you need your higher end meal fix) . We then went south to the Grand Tetons to the Jackson Lake Lodge for a few days and did a slow river raft and some horseback trail-riding as well as more great hikes. I recommend moving around the park(s) so you can do a variety of hikes and see a variety of what these gems have to offer. I am not really a nature girl but I loved this trip. The buffalo are majestic and plentiful as you are driving around the park. We enjoyed hiking along the top of the Grand Canyon rim trail in Yellowstone, Elephant Back Mountain near the Yellowstone Lake area, Taggart-Bradley lakes hike in the Grand Tetons. We preferred Hayden Valley to Lamar Valley for watching buffalo because it's less windy and buggy and less remote. There are some lovely trails on the edge of Hayden Valley - Mary's Mountain was one of them where you could see buffalo in the distance. Really just reserve your hotels, drive around and do what strikes you.

  • Amazing hotel with below average restaurants.

    Hotel is a 5
    Restaurants are a 2

The Old Faithful Inn is truly extraordinary. Possibly the most amazing log cabin in the world with a history to match. If you are not fortunate enough to stay here, it is worth a stop to go in and take a look. Have a cocktail if you like but skip the food.

The main dining room has a great atmosphere but the food and service is really below par. Most chain coffee shops have better food and service. We sent one plate back and observed the table next to us do the same, both after long wait times after the food was ordered. The sandwich shop also comes up short. Both restaurants are over priced considering the poor quality of the food.

As stated, the hotel is amazing. It is next to Old Faithful and our room had a view of the geyser and is within walking distance are numerous pools and geysers.
