  • It's All About the Old Building!

    by The5MRanch on 2019-05-23 06:52 pm

The rooms are obviously not 5 star, but the original building is spectacular. The Inn is also in a great location, obviously to view Old Faithful, but also for perhaps the best geyser and pool hike in Yellowstone. It also gives you a chance to get out early to some of the most popular spots like Biscuit Basin and Midway Geyser Basin, before everyone else gets into the park.

  • Still Well Kept After Many Years

by RockyMtnMark on 2019-05-20 05:55 pm

Returning again after many years, we had forgotten how comfortable this inn is! We were pleasantly surprised how well the inn has been maintained, especially after recent refurbishment. Though we did not have a private bath (only 8 rooms in the old part of the inn have private baths), the room was well kept and had a nicely refurbished sink, with copper table top and appropriately "old-fashioned" faucet.

The common baths had also been refurbished, with new tile and marble; quite nice. The inn common area had been refurbished recently, too, with new wood floors. Staff were all quite nice and cheerful. Music in the comfortable lobby each nice was wonderful.

We had forgotten how much we like this place. It was like coming home for a vacation again! Expensive, but worth it for a treat. We came in the early Spring, so crowds were minimal, but many trails were still closed due to snow.

  • Old, scenic and historic

We stayed for 4 nights in mid May.

    The excellent:
You are definitely paying for the location. We were a couple hundred yards from "Old Faithful" and could sit on our bed and watch eruptions.

    The Good:
The Inn is large and well kept up for a 100+ year old lodge. Rooms were spacious for an older lodge.

    The Bad:
While the staff was friendly, training and follow through were lacking. Twice we came back and the room was not serviced. For over $400 a night, making the bed and changing the towels is only included if we get to it? We were told we could get a discount if we did not request that they come back and do what they should have already done. The discount offered was 1%??? Are you kidding me? They will knock off $4 of a $400 nightly bill if they do not clean up the room?

One day we waited in line 10 minutes for breakfast only to be informed on the way to the table that the only food available that day was the buffet? You could not order off the menu? We had already tried their buffet, and it was mediocre and over priced even by cafeteria standards.

The beds were hard, not firm. Both my wife and I did not sleep well at all.

    The terrible:
We were told ahead of time the place has internet. The books in the room list internet as an amenity, evben tell you how to sign on. The only problem is that it had been discontinued and was not available. Big problem when my wife was counting on doing some work related business by internet and it has been discontinued.

Overall, I would recommend people stay there for a night or two for the experience of being right in the park by all the action... but beware, no internet, very limited, over priced food options and I would rate them 1 star for service after the room being missed twice in four days.

  • Rustic, Quaint and Cozy

We stayed at the Old Faithful inn for 2 nights and loved it! The rooms are small, rustic and clean and there is no tv WiFi/cell service or a/c but luckily cooler out that it wasn't needed! We were fortunate to have a very nice spacious bathroom with bathtub:shower combo. The sink was outside of bathroom. Weather was cooler but we e joyed watching the old Faithful Geyser On property or from the large 2nd floor deck with lots of seating! The lobby is quaint and rustic with log cabin setting and fireplace; lots of seating and live music! so it was so nice to sit in the lobby, there is a general store, cafeteria, tavern, restaurant, and general store and visitors center on property! Lots of Paths and beware of many Bison walking around near paths! This is definitely the place to stay. But be sure to book a year in advance! !

  • Ok for what it is

Stayed in the west wing, which is newer, with an in-room full bath. I'm at that age where this is not an option. The room, 40**, was dated and in need of updating. It did, however, have a coffee maker and blow dryer. The blow dryer was one of those tiny ones so be aware. Radiator heat, which you cannot shut off, at least in May, so to cool the room you had to open the window.. Which only opened from the top. Not a whole lot of electrical outlets either. No TV anywhere so bring your device pre-loaded with movies or books. There was cellular service. No free WIFI. I have Verizon, which wasn't bad. Verizon just added a new tower close to the park to provide better service, which it does. It's slow and only best where the hotels are (never went to the camping area). Check in is 4:30 pm but don't expect to get into your room by then. We were still waiting at 6:00 pm to check in. It was the beginning of the season and they were short staffed, but it was still annoying. TIP: Join Friends of the Park ($35.00) and you can save 15% on your room and anything you purchase in the gift shops. It's well worth it to join if you stay more than 2 days and buy anything.
