  • Amazing breakfast in an amazing place

    by SethE56 on 2018-09-22 11:43 am

Despite the fact that our waiter looked (and smelled) like he'd been up all night, the breakfast was tasty and the price was less than expected. The bacon was perfectly crispy, eggs fluffy, and the French toast delicious. Will definitely come back.

  • Very cool, historical place.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. Sure, this is an older place so don't expect high end luxury. You are paying for location location location, and in my opinion it's well worth it. Our room was comfortable and clean and met our needs. We ate at the bar and enjoyed splitting a bison burger. Be sure to grab a drink from the bar, head out to the balcony, and watch Old Faithful erupt. Very cool.

  • Old Faithful Inn

The Old Faithful is a grand lady whose lobby and outside scenery make it a must go to place. One shouldn't expect to be staying in the lap of luxury or expecting a 5 star meal. but the Inn is what one would expect for being built in 1907. It is clean and as modern as possible. You must reserve a room over a year in advance especially if you want one with a bathroom in your room.

  • A great place to stay in the park, just don't eat there

    by MaryC2273 on 2018-09-22 06:09 am

The Inn has an older section (beautiful, rustic rooms but with a communal bathroom) and a newer section (still not modern, but clean and comfortable and with its own bath). The lobby area is decorated in a lodge look with high ceilings and a beautiful stone fireplace. Each floor has a balcony overlooking the lobby with chairs and benches all around where everyone congregates each evening. There is a lovely balcony with a great view of Old Faithful geyser. You must make reservations well in advance (at least a year) and the Inn is very expensive, but not having to fight the traffic driving in and out of the park every day makes it worthwhile. The rooms do not have air conditioning or any amenities to speak of, but it was a great place to stay to explore the park. However, dining options are limited in the park as a whole, and the Old Faithful Inn had the worst food anywhere in the park. The Old Faithful Inn dining room has terrible quality food, and the service ranged from mediocre to poor. I would definitely not recommend the buffet for breakfast or dinner - it is extremely overpriced for the same kind of food you might get at a cheap motel in a sketchy neighborhood. The breakfast is tolerable if you order off the menu, but neither the menu nor the buffet was any good at dinner. The best option is to go over to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge to eat. The Obsidian and the Firehole Lounge have better food and service (although we had a terrible server at the Obsidian one night also). As much as we paid to stay at the Old Faithful Inn, we expected much better quality food and service. None of the food in Yellowstone is great (Roosevelt Lodge had the best of anything we tried), but Old Faithful Inn dining room was by far the worst.

  • Over priced and over rated with bad food!!

    by Satinath S on 2018-09-20 08:58 am

Yes, a historic place indeed and I was so thrilled to get a lst minute accomodation in a room way above my budget!! I was really disappointed to say the least. 1. Dark, dingy and smelly rooms without air-conditioning for $400/night, 2. Overpriced food that takes for ever to arrive and when it arrives, it is dry, oily and almost uneatable. 3. It appeared that most staff working there are either unhappy or driven by some kind of ego to be working at a premium property. They do not seem to care about your needs the least bit, specially the housekeeping staff and the restaurant reception staff. 4. No WiFi, 5. Poor plumbing and toiletteries, 6. I have stayed at heritage properties older than this where the prices are lot more reasonable and you are treated much better, 7. Crowded.

The pros are 1. Feeling of being in a historic place, 2. Well located with lot of geothermal activity arround.

Would I stay there next time: NO, a big NO.
Would I stay there if the price was $200: Possibly, but I would still explore other options.
