  • Would not stay again!

    by Amhat10 on 2019-03-17 08:43 pm

Our experience with the Palmer House has NOT been a good one. I have a conference to attend so we came to Chicago a couple days early to enjoy the city. Once we arrived our room was nothing like the room that was pictured. Mattress was horrible! Room was tiny. They did move us to the room type we actually reserved and paid for but not until the next day. They told us to contact the front desk at 11:00 am the following day and they would upgrade our room at no cost. Of course when we called at 11:00 the room was not ready. We told them we had tickets for a play at 2:00. We finally get a call the room is ready. We go to the front desk and the attendant is taking her time. It is now 1:30. I tell her we have to be at a play at 2:00. She says if you will give me a moment I will have you on your way and you will make your appointment. I said are you sure we are going to have time to move rooms and get to the play? She says absolutely. She finally hands us the keys. The hotel never offered any assistance to help move our luggage or get us to the play. We were late for the play so we weren't allowed to sit in the 2nd row seats we had purchased until after intermission. Also, the "free upgraded room" they moved us to was the type room that was pictured across the internet as the historic & hip king room, which is what our reservation was for and we paid for. They did NOT upgrade our room at no cost. I was extremely disappointed in this hotel.

  • Beautiful & Convenient Hotel!

I cannot rate this hotel high enough! It's close to everything you need in Chicago! The lobby is fantastic and a nice place to hangout in and have drinks in the evening. Staff was phenomenal and accommodating. When you check in you get texts asking how everything is and the responses are always quick when you have questions. The nicest Hilton hotel I've stayed in!

  • Everything is old

    by johnnylopez2017 on 2019-03-15 08:51 am

Great historic hotel and everything here is old and outdated. Personnel was terrible from front desk to restaurant hosts. hotel needs a major renovation. I This place should be a museum and facilities and service seems like they are stuck in time. Only great thing is close to everything. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.

  • Great location. A little pricey.

    by Richard F on 2019-03-15 06:59 am

Great older classic hotel. Walls are kinda thin and even with thermo set to 68 we were warm. Located near lots of stuff. Parking was across the street but okay. Didn't need the mini bar would rather have a fridge and coffee maker.

  • It was the people who made the visit.

    by AllenFamily12 on 2019-03-14 12:17 am

I checked in on a Wednesday for business. The staff was friendly. The Palmer House is old, historic, somewhat modernized and clean. I stayed on the executive floor, 23rd. I did not like that the food was free in the executive lounge, but the drinks we're prices through the roof. I thought, no problem, there is a refrigerator in the room, I'll just get my own. When I got to the room, which by the way was adequate, nothing special, the refrigerator was not for my personal use. See picture for explanation.
Outside of those complaints, the people were incredibly hospitable. Each of them went out of their way to make you feel engaged in your experience. For breakfast, where I am at my grumpiest, the manager Earnest stocked the executive breakfast bar, greeted every client with a smile. Earnest was very concerned about my positive experience. He even said at one point, " if you came to the Palmer House to get away, I am your Calgon that will take you away".
Sure it's corny, but he takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows. This is just one example of the great staff at the Palmer House.
The Palmer House is right in the middle of everything down town. If you look up the top 15 places to eat in Chicago, you will see that almost half of them are walking distance from The Palmer House. Millennium Park is two blocks away. River walk with all it's shops and boat tours is 6-8 blocks away. Lake Michigan is 5 blocks away, just behind Millennium Park. If you are going stay in Chicago and don't have a BlueGreen membership, I highly recommend The Palmer House by Hilton.
