  • Old hotel with style and cramped rooms in need of update

by Fcbjmblrbaib on 2018-09-18 03:39 pm

The hotel has style with a large lobby with original Art Deco architecture. Ceilings are low in hallways, rooms are small maybe 12x14 at most. Rooms need an update. Great location in the loop near theaters and shopping.

  • Grand old hotel

The hotel was centrally located for everything you want to do in Chicago. While the room was on the smaller side it had everything we needed. The room was also very quiet and I could not hear any noise from the street below. Even though the hotel workers were on strike we never encountered any issues.
The hotel lobby and bar is very beautiful and was almost a look back in time. We enjoyed drinks and one of their famous brownies at the bar. Great place to mingle and was packed on Friday and Saturday night.

  • Historically terrible!

This is my second stay. If you enjoy a hotel with a grand entrance, small rooms, terrible HVAC, no refrigerator and no coffee maker in your room then this is for you. Otherwise, stay away. I stayed ten nights. After the hotel workers went on strike, it was four days before I was contacted about how my room would be serviced. During this time, mountains of linens and garbage filled the hall leading to my room. Once the service resumed, my personal toiletries were thrown away by the temporary housekeeping. Terrible. Worst customer service ever. If you'd love to see the grand entrance to this hotel. Book somewhere else and visit the lobby of Palmer House. Save yourself hundreds of dollars and an uncomfortable stay!

  • Nice, historic, but I felt awkward with my kids there.

    by Laura M on 2018-09-17 03:38 pm

My two boys (ages 4 & 8) joined my sister at Palmer House while she was in town for a conference. We were initially greeted by the hotel workers striking out front. I am all for them fighting for what's fair, but the snare drums and pots and pans they were clanging was incredibly hurtful to the ears, on top of the normal city noise. We got to the hotel and the lobby is STUNNING. However, it was not a great place for kids and mine were the only ones around. My sister had booked 2 beds but they went to give her a room with just one. She was told it would be $75 more a night for the 2 beds, but that was waived when she showed her gold Hilton status. Our room was just a hotel room. Nothing special. It was clean, but no extra blankets in the room. Staff was courteous to us and the awkwardness of my kids was probably just me. It was also extremely easy to catch an Uber/Lyft or cab outside. The parking garage was on the next block and was well lit and clean.

  • In love!

Some might say that this hotel looks like the one in American Horror Story but I say that it is just magical. The building is located in the perfect area of downtown, many things are walking distance and staff is extremely helpful and hospitable. Is a beautiful place to visit and to stay. The rooms are a little small but who's gonna stay in their hotel room al day? Not me. Thank you Palmer House.
