Located in Aachen, just on Germany’s border with Belgium and the Netherlands, Parkhotel Aachen Quellenhof is a historic hotel with a rich history of providing spa-focused services to its guests. The Hotel Palast Aachener Quellenhof was built in 1914 with a neoclassical façade and surrounded by beautifully sculpted public gardens. Though the structure was largely destroyed during World War II, the building has since been completely restored. Over 100 years after it first opened its doors, this premium hotel is still in operation and continues to offer a generous, spa-like atmosphere where guests can relax and rejuvenate. Guests will enjoy walking the grounds of the City Garden Aachen, located just beyond the hotel’s doors. First founded as a Roman settlement and spa, the city carries the spa life tradition on today. Guests to this romantic German city will discover Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thermal fountains, and a tradition of fine foods.

Discover

  • Discover the stunning Neoclassical façade that defines the Parkhotel Aachen Quellenhof. Designed by architect Karl Stöhr, this historic hotel was originally constructed in 1916 as part of a much larger three-winged complex that consisted of a spa and treatment center.
  • Admire the grand historic accommodations at the Parkhotel Aachen Quellenhof. Many illustrious guests have stayed at this magnificent historic hotel, including King Juan Carlos of Spain, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
  • Stroll through the beautiful Kurgarten just beyond the hotel’s front door. This spectacular public park was once the spa gardens for the Maria-Hilf-Hospital that occupied the grounds during the 19th century. It is now joined by the Stadtpark, which together are protected as one of the city’s cultural monuments.

Explore

  • Explore the Aachener Dom (Aachen Cathedral) just moments away. Originally founded during the 8th century, the Aachener Dom is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many historical objects are located inside this magnificent church, including Charlemagne’s marble throne.
  • Visit the brilliant Elisenbrunnen just down the road. This glorious Neoclasscial pavilion was constructed to commemorate Aachen’s historical reputation as a health resort due to its many thermal springs. The Elisenbrunnen consists of an open foyer and two large drinking wells.
  • Travel to the historic Ponttor several blocks away. This remarkable castle is just one of two remaining city gates that formed part of the imposing wall that protected Aachen throughout most of its history. (The other surviving gate is known as the Marschiertor, but far less of it remains)

Experience

  • Experience the amazing sights of the famous Marktplatz am Rathaus. This spectacular public square is home to many amazing restaurants and cafés, as well as one of Aachen’s most iconic landmarks, the Rathaus Aachen.
  • Tour through the brilliant Aachener Domschatzkammer (Aachen Cathedral Treasury). Located next to the Aachener Dom, this amazing cultural institution features one of Europe’s most important collections of religious artifacts from the continent’s Middle Ages. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Aachener Dom.
  • Gaze upon the impressive exhibitions on display at the Centre Charlemagne. The museum features cutting-edge audiovisual displays that wonderfully present the history of Aachen in its entirety. Much of its focus is centered on the legendary European monarch known as Charlemagne, who lived in the city throughout his reign.

Taste

  • Taste some classic Aachener Printen when visiting Aachen. A delicious pastry similar to gingerbread, printen is served all over the city at such locations like the confectionaries of the city’s famous family-owned baking company, Nobis Printen.
  • Enjoy the amazing array of pastries available at Van Den Daele. While this historic café has been open since the 1890s, the building itself has existed since the mid 17th century. The Van Den Daele keeps its wonderful history alive through its remarkable collection of Aachen-Liège Baroque-style furniture.
  • Savor a meal at the Postwagen in downtown Aachen. Located right on the Marktplatz am Rathaus, the historic building that the restaurant resides within dates back to 1657. Come relish its extensive variety of wonderful dishes, such as Barbarie Entenbrust and Hirschkalbmedaillons.
