  • Unimpressive

I have been to almost every five star golf resort in the United States

Wow this place reeks of history and nostalgia, the rooms are terrible. The hallways are noisy. The amenities are very outdated and the place needs a total upgrade. If you're not sure what this looks like, go google the lodge a Pebble beach and see what their rooms are like . Or the American club at Kohler.
Concierge would not even help me arrange transportation to the airport. They said I had to do it myself.
Overall the location is good But you're going to overpay for this place.

This is a golf resort on a prized PGA golf course in a beautiful woodsy setting with a lot of silence, peace, pine trees dropping pine cones, and dirt paths that brach off from golf cart lanes to being alone in nature. The hotel has nice rooms, staff, + food.

  • Excellent Experience

This Resort is what others merely try to be. It is a series of lessons in how to treat guests well. Time has not tarnished or diminished this southern gem. This one of those places where you wonder "Am I even allowed to be a guest here?". You get a resounding yes as the team, ambiance, food and overall service embrace you.

...and yes I am frequent visitor.

  • Wonderful evening!!

Carolina is a wonderful place for dinner! Celebrated a birthday with the family and was not disappointed. Our waiter, Abner Jr., was a pleasure and the food amazing. I had the special of the evening, Sea Bass, and can saw was one of best dishes I have ever had. It was busy, but we never felt rushed nor neglected. If in Pinehurst and want a special dinner...this is the restaurant.

  • Showing its age

We came to Pinehurst for a week of golf, food, drink, and fun. The Carolina Hotel seemed like the obvious place to stay given its central location and reputation.

Driving up to the hotel was picture perfect, a great old historic hotel oozing southern charm.

However, the resort is severely showing its age. Worn carpets, drab colors, poorly lit rooms, outdated decor.

We were checked in promptly and got to our room, only to be extremely disappointed. It had shockingly low ceilings, VERY worn linens, a tiny closet, and a bathroom door that wouldn't close. To make matters worse we quickly learned that our room was adjacent to a stairwell that was used by all of the staff - making it extremely loud throughout the day and evening. We attempted to move rooms but were told there was nothing else available until the following day.

Oh well, we didn't come to the resort for the room but rather for the golf. And at least on that front it didn't disappoint.

However, the rest of the Carolina Hotel seemed similarly behind the times amenity and service wise.

The Ryder Cup lounge was small, overcrowded, with a decor and vibe that looked straight out of the 1980s. The bar itself served very mediocre drinks at about 16-18 dollars a pop. Bartenders seemed disinterested and frequently disappeared into the back for long stretches of time.

The Carolina dining room was great for dinner, no complaints there. Interestingly, the drink list in the dining room is completely different and the cocktails that came out when we ordered at dinner were top notch. What's the difference? I would assume it was the same bar staff pouring. Maybe they should apply the same quality standards to all areas of the hotel.

We had a great vacation and loved the golf courses. But the resort itself is falling behind in terms of the quality of amenities offered. When you compare it to "peer" golf resorts in the Southeast (I'm thinking Kiawah, Sea Island) - the facilities are really lacking.
