  • Fun Family Fest

    by Barb M on 2019-08-14 04:47 pm

Th? Publick House is a centrally located and enjoyable place to get together with family. It is right off of both highways Rte 84 and MA Pike. Downstairs there is a wonderful bakery. The menu is diverse and something to offer everyone. In our party we had vegans and vegetarians. The menu is quite varied but continues to offer the ole favorites for those going there for decades. The bread baskets are full of cornbread, pecan rolls, zucchini bread and plain rolls. The meals are plentiful with many choices for sides. Enjoy

  • Great deal for a short stay

by petiroja on 2019-08-11 11:06 am

Based on other reviews, I had low expectations for the motor lodge portion of the hotel. But the late arrival rate was a very good price so we tried it. It was perfect for our family of three.

The room was clean, the linens and carpet were good, the lemon verbena toiletries were nice. The furniture was vintage mid-century design, but all in good condition.

We swam in the pretty, outdoor pool before dinner. We walked down to the restaurant for dinner, which was nice not to have to get back in the car to go anywhere once we arrived. And the breakfast coffee and pastries were a sweet touch.

The staff were kind and competent. There were lots of small events on-site, but it was quiet overnight.

  • Charming & well-preserved glimpse into the past!

    by Karen C on 2019-08-10 05:38 pm

The Publick House was founded in 1771, 5 years before our great country was officially formed - 248 years ago! It was a stop along the old Boston Post Road, established as an original line of communication. The original innkeeper, Col. Ebenezer Crafts himself supplied a cavalry for George Washington's army in the Revolutionary War. There is a cemetery next door that clearly holds the plots of war heroes. Crafts sounded like a gracious host with impeccable taste, and that tradition appears to continue to thrive here on these grounds and within these walls.

There is a museum-like aura as you walk through the inn, and the grounds are painstakingly kept. I love the way it smells inside: difficult to explain, but maybe like old wood and celebration! And I'm sure some of that is my own projection.

I stayed at the Publick House a month ago when my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all of our family and loved every moment! It was my first visit, but my family from the area were very familiar and many have celebrated their own functions here over the years. I couldn't have been more impressed with the entire establishment. The grounds are impeccable and perfect for a peaceful stroll, free treats from the Bake Shop in the morning delicious (as is everything else they do), and the staff was all courteous, professional and attentive. Our party was fun and I enjoyed everything about our weekend there!

  • Not off to a good start

    by allover1000 on 2019-08-08 03:12 pm

Checked into quaint inn and excited for a quiet night. Cover band is screaming AC/DC and Van Halen right outside window. Check before you arrive. No idea when it will end! Disappointed! Staff is friendly but not helpful in resolving! I suggested a different room but they wanted me to pay for upgrade.

  • Wonderful Place

    by Joan K on 2019-08-04 01:54 pm

Came here and stayed in the Country Lodge, we had three adjacent rooms with other family members, they were kind enough to get us all in a row, one had a dog and this area is dog friendly. Lovely room, large, two queens, great lighting and an outdoor balcony. Guests get free coffee and pastries at the Bake Shoppe from 7-10am, very good selection of coffee and nice danishes. All hotel staff is very pleasant the grounds are beautifully manicured! Would definitely come back. Also great to have an excellent restaurant on premises for breakfast, lunch and dinner or just drinks.
