  • Spectacular views, terrible service!

    by but4goi on 2018-09-17 05:16 pm

A friend and I stayed to relax and walk and bike ride. Once there, we discovered only 4 chairs in the "lodge" area. The room was okay, and had a mini fridge and comfortable beds, clean enough. We inquired right away about bike rentals and were told they didn't have any. We asked how to get to the nature center and 3 people working at the manor couldn't tell us how to get there but offered a map. We walked the path around the lake, very nice with planked walkways and fishing piers. No dining there with the exception of a buffet breakfast for $11.99 (it looked good, but I don't like buffets). There's nice seating outside and an inside pool (outside pool was closed). The pool towels were very small and sand-paper rough. The shower/restroom was outside of the pool room down the hallway. The view outside was awesome so we got a couple pricey drinks (the bartender was actually a housekeeper, but they used her as a backup) and headed out to the fire pit area. The next day we headed out to explore the marina and maybe rent a kayak. The marina is just a small cabin with bait. The lake was quite green in that area so we skipped the rental. The man at the marina pointed us to the nature center, which had hours of noon to 5 but no one was ther at 1, so we skipped that. Then, lo and behold, was a rack of bikes for rent and pricing!!! Too late for that by then. Quite disappointing. I recommend driving to Burton for lunch/dinner at Warren's, about 4 miles away. I think it would be a great place for outside walking but that's about it. I won't go back.

  • Wonderful

I was stranded during a busy weekend in the area. Punderson had one room available so I took it, sight unseen. Wow. Loved it. Beautiful, well kept Tudor mansion. Beautiful grounds, lake, beach, kids' area. On and on. Great food and the most accommodating staff ever. Even has a ghost but it didn't bother me. Good food.

  • A few twists and turns, but they put on a great wedding!

    by Evan F on 2018-08-03 07:22 pm

I stayed here in June for the wedding of one of my best friends. She'd invited about 180 people, and the staff were able to help create one of the loveliest such events I've attended. My friends married out on the back lawn overlooking the lake. It was positively idyllic.

Some of the wedding party stayed in the cabins, a close walk from the lodge. The more fussy of us, myself included, stayed in the lodge. It's a little rustic, but comfortable enough. The hallways are easy to get a bit lost in, and I can't imagine it's ADA accessible with all the random tiny staircases, but could equally well be wrong about that.

We did the Father's Day brunch the next morning, which was absolutely what we needed after the extensive reception. Thanks for a lovely stay, and for treating us all so well!

  • Great lodging choice for your golf weekend

We had a couples golf outing in Newbury last weekend and we stayed over Saturday night at the manor. We also had diner there. This is a wonderful venue and the service and food in the restaurant were both first rate. The rooms are clean and well appointed, but it is a lodge and not the Ritz. The grounds are immaculate, there are also cabins a beautiful pool and so much to do in the area.

  • beautiful setting; terrific food

Stayed here two nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The lodge has been beautifully kept up and renovated. This is such a beautiful lodge, great walking paths, terrific food(and I am very picky).
