  • Not Quite Up to Snuff

    by LarryF149 on 2019-08-19 10:52 am

This is a beautiful old historic building, nicely restored and generally updated with modern conveniences in the bathroom and room itself. The staff was friendly and helpful when we arrived.
The broad front porch and view of an old train brought to mind different times when we actually traveled by train. The lobby area is lovely and there is an elevator to the second and third floors where the rooms are located. The room was a bit cramped but comfortable and the AC worked well. This should have been a bustling property, unfortunately it seemed to a large degree deserted. The ballroom and bar were dark and closed off and other than the self serve breakfast the bar dining area was no longer in use.
The walls in the rooms are thin and sound is easily transmitted from adjoining rooms. We were disappointed that the restaurant was no longer in business because it would have been a beautiful area to dine.
The breakfast was marginal at best and the coffee was not good and ran out before I could get even one cup with no one around to replenish it. We finally opted out on the breakfast and went down the road to get something to eat.
All in all not what we expected.

  • Interesting Historical building

Stopped in to see the bar and have lunch and they are closed indefinitely. They advertise both on the side of the hotel but haven't taken down the sign?

We are planning on re-opening the restaurant soon. Please stay tuned!

  • Change your itinerary to stop here

This Inn has a wild history, including Wild Bill. The hotel has been remodeled and upgraded. Small rooms that are wonderfully appointed. We will arrange all of our schedules to stop here, even if it means additional travel time. Loved it from the setting to the staff to the lodging.

  • Stunning Piece of Wyoming History

by RobinMGaston on 2019-06-20 01:53 pm

My sister and I had the pleasure of staying at the Historic Sheridan Inn in Sheridan, WY for the three nights. So happy they were able to save this beautiful place and refurbish it into a stunning piece of Wyoming history. It was built by Buffalo Bill to be a luxury hotel between Chicago and San Fransisco. It is right next to the train tracks, so it was once a popular stop. When I lived there in the 80's it was used as a night club and had fallen on hard times.

Several years ago it was about to be auctioned piece by piece and torn down when the new owners stepped in to save it. They have done a beautiful job mixing old pieces with new local western decor. The big clawfoot tub was heaven, as was no TV! ( Good wi-fi though.) The beds are very comfortable with down comforters, pillows and Pendleton blankets. We stayed in Miss Kate's room, a long-time resident of the Inn who supposedly has never really left! Our room was beautiful. We did hear the trains, but they didn't bother us as we grew up with the trains.

I am really hoping that the owners get the restaurant and bar running again soon. I think it is the one thing the hotel is missing. The nightly warm chocolate chip cookies and the coffee stations are a nice touch. We didn't try the continental breakfast, so I can't comment on it. However, do NOT miss the scones and coffee over at Andi's, a very short walk away. So glad the lovely woman at the front desk told us to try it!

We didn't get to see the ghost of Miss Kate unfortunately, but now that her beloved Inn has been so lovingly restored, the energy inside is nothing but warm and happy. Highly recommended.
