  • Great hotel in perfect spot in DC

    Fantastic hotel. Hit right on all counts. Check in was a breeze, the car valet came out and asked our name on the street when we pulled over and basically took care of everything and we were in our room in like 2-3 minutes (expensive to park at $64 per day...my only gripe. You can self-park one block away at a public grange for 1/3 the price). Rooms were good size, clean, modern room with minibar and coffee machine. Wonderful bed! Great shower. Lots of new release pay per view movie options, Easy check out on the TV menu. Lobby is nice and location cannot be beat. Only negative issue I had was that we only stayed here one night. My wife and I wished we could've spent a whole week here...maybe next time.

  • Beautiful and convenient location. Be financially prepared.

    We stayed here for our anniversary. We got a Priceline deal. The hotel is beautiful. Whoever did the interior design knows what they are doing. There is also tea and other beverages being served at no charge in the lobby.

    Location is great. We walked pretty much everywhere, and you can from here.

    The carpet in our room was dated, although it sorta fit with the decor. We were nervous to touch anything like beverages because we thought we would be charged.

    In fact, you feel this way continuously while in the hotel. Maybe if you're a big shot and have a lot of money to burn, you won't be intimidated by this. However, if you're just looking to have a nice time with this opportunity of a five star hotel, be ready to have some extra money set aside for hidden/not as obvious costs.

    For example, parking is around 56 a night. To get around this, we found a Groupon for Union Station. You will get charged a 25 amenity fee at checkout. You will need at least 100 in your account for the deposit. And for the love of God don't eat at the restaurant. The waiters, while very polite, will come up to you asking if you want juice or tea or another beverage, making it sound like they are included. They are not. There will also be a 18% food charge or something like that on your bill. The food was amazing however.

  • Great hotel, friendly staff and excellent location

    We stayed here for three nights in May 2019. Our room was well appointed and comfortable with a great view to the street - perfect for people watching!. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful although a special shout out to Sebastian in the restaurant. He is a true gentleman and gave the hotel an Old World feeling- something sadly lacking in this day and age. Thank you Sebastian for making The Sofitel feel like a home away from home. The food is great, we had room service one night as well as breakfast every morning. The bar is very welcoming and just what we needed after a long days walk around the capital, the barman also gave us a great tip for a special restaurant, The Occidental. A special place with a great history and the best steak and crabcakes, it was the best meal we had all trip! The location of the hotel is unbeatable - a short walk around the corner and we found the White House! As Aussie tourists visiting Washington DC for the first time, we found the city very impressive, easy to navigate, full of amazing sights and monuments and beautiful street scapes.We would love to return someday and will definately stay at this hotel again when we do.

  • Excellent location - nice comfortable room - some issues though

    For a business trip I stayed 4 nights at this hotel. Location is perfect for central DC, just a short walk to the subway station (McPherson Square Station, exit White House). Had booked a standard room but got upgraded due to my Accor gold status. Room was clean and housekeeping did a very nice job every day. Bed is the comfortable Sofitel bed, bathroom was large enough and had a separate shower. Room was also quiet and airco worked fine with outside temps up too 100F.

    I had planned to do some work in the room but that proofed to by a bit difficult. The desk had a chair that was not suited at all, it was way to low to sit at a desk (and I'm over 6ft). Only solution was to put a few pillows in the chair and sit on them, not that comfortable.

    My hotel reservation included breakfast but the hotel only serves a la carte. This meant I got a 30$ credit for breakfast. That seems a lot but breakfast is rather expensive and this won't get you the so called Opaline breakfast ($25) due to added costs. The quality though was pretty good.

    At arrival I got a welcoming letter addressed to Mrs xxx (I am a Mr...) which is a bit sloppy. It promised some delicacies but they never showed up. A late check out was also mentioned but it turned out that it was difficult to get that organised. 13:00 is definitely not a late check out! It took some effort to change that into 15:00. I used the fast check out expecting to receive an invoice by email but never got one. Had to call to get that fixed.

    All in all the stay was OK and I slept well. Staff was friendly and polite. But there's a couple of things that need some refinement by the management to have a truly 5 star experience.

  • An absolutely perfect holiday!

    The Sofitel was exquisite. In a fabulous location, close to the metro and many top-notch restaurants and bars - not to mention all the sights - an absolute treasure. And the staff - incredible. Special shout out to Toufik. He was hands-down the VERY best server I've ever had the pleasure of dining with in all my years. His level of service was beyond expectation. We just can't say enough about this wonderful hotel and how it MADE our entire trip one we will always remember. Will ALWAYS stay in this hotel hence forward when visiting DC.
