  • Pretty Lobby, disappointing room..Not a Four star Hotel room. (Club King Room)

    by AJ P on 2019-02-14 06:49 pm

To clarify, We enjoy the old hotels, especially all the Historic Hotels of America,
they come with a certain expectation of patina, peeling paint, or original plaster needing repair. That is ok, they are old.
Our pet peeve is cleanliness, and the full service at a 4 star establishment.
We picked a higher priced room, on the cozy Club floor 13. Upon arrival, the lobby takes your breath away. After arriving at the room, my impression was of a Holiday Inn Express, with scratched up furniture and a "not spotless" room.
The bed was a bit dated, and lumpy. Time for new ones. The bathroom faucets and shower nozzle were spotted and had hard water crust on the nozzle. The shower vent was disgusting, hadn't been cleaned in a awhile. The furniture in the room was scratched up, (yard sale) which is confusing since the hotel has a furniture repair shop on the premises..
None of this really mattered with the exception that the price of 525$ a night should reflect some perfection.
Now, I booked the room online through what I believe was a 3rd party booking by mistake that added 165$ to the room for "extra fees" (which was not disclosed until purchased) BUYER BEWARE, book direct through the Hotel, do not make the mistake I made.
We enjoyed the in room meal, which was good, but the 12 inch yummy pizza is actually a 7 inch yummy pizza in a bowl. The burger was excellent, and HUGE. Good job!
Leaving the next morning, noticed the same biscuit crumbs in the hallway by the elevator I noticed upon arrival, but it didn't bother us, because I wanted to go to the roof top for a morning view! Nope. Locked up.. so much for my morning Valentines day roof top kiss. Now I am bothered.
    Open those doors!
We checked out, and were hoping for a parking garage comp'd ticket, no luck. The smiling lady advised me that "Paying directly" would be the least expensive way to depart. Ok, I did appreciate the roving security on our vehicle through out the evening.
We admired the beautiful woodwork, as we walked out of the hotel, wishing good luck on the old building.
    Take aways-
Before staying, ask to see a room perhaps? I have to do this at inexpensive places. We happily pay much more $ for nice hotels for the comfort of cleanliness.

    Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience.
I spoke with our front desk manager Susan, who was with you at check out. She thought you had an enjoyable visit.
Nevertheless, I did tour your room and understand your notes. Please know that these are not issues in our rooms.
Please allow me to handle your reservation when your travels next bring you to Louisville and I will block a very nice room and ensure it is in top condition. And I will make our roof top event space available for a tour.
Sorry to hear about your challenge with the room rate through the internet booking company. We would always advise to check the hotel booking engine.
I do hope to have you back with us. I know we will meet your every expectation.

  • We loved it here, historic hotel with lots of charm

by MattLMI on 2019-02-13 03:15 am

We stayed at The Brown overnight when traveling from Michigan to Atlanta, GA. What a great historic old hotel, the amenities were great with great dining on premise and staff were friendly and cheerful, very helpful. We loved hearing the stories about how the hotel came to be built and about the local area. Staying there on our return trip too.

  • Beautiful Historic Hotel

Beautiful interior with a classic feel and impeccable service. The staff makes you feel like part of the family. A lobby bar with great food and a bourbon list. I will stay here everytime I stop in Louisville.

  • ROMANTIC GETAWAY

    by Joe H on 2019-02-12 11:34 am

My wife and I took a weekend at the Brown Hotel in Louisville. I was struck most and first by how nice and helpful everyone was from the moment we arrived.

We had a drink and a snack at the lounge area in the afternoon. Melissa was extremely nice and helpful. The snack was the lobster mac & cheese and it was as great as we'd heard it would be.

We had our anniversary dinner at the English Grill. Our waiter, Dourian(?), was charming and helpful. He did a great Caesar salad for two. The whole mean was excellent!

The room was large and comfortable. Okay, maybe the bed was a little soft for us, but a great room none the less. They had roses and champaign and chocolate covered strawberries in the room for us when we arrived. Part of the package.

My general comment would be this: this hotel is a throwback to when everything was done right! What a pleasure.

  • Historic hotel that with 21st Century amenities

    by jayfish420 on 2019-02-12 11:33 am

This service here is what stands out to me. That's quickly followed by the feeling that this place has managed to keep its amenities up-to-date while still preserving the classic look of the place. It's got an easy and free airport shuttle, outstanding dining and bar, and super-comfy beds. I will stay here when I come back.
