  • Bitter Taste Following Such A Happy Occasion

    by Erica H on 2019-06-19 10:23 am

Last month, I attended a beautiful wedding of friends at the Drake Hotel. Following the ceremony, I carried my card with cash enclosed to the cocktail hour then reception. It was at the reception that I learned that I'd missed the gift box for the cards and checks. I decided to hold onto it until I found the wedding planner. Unfortunately for me, my card and cash were swiped from the table during the reception! A few guests gave me the heads up to staff that had cleaned off the time, as circumstances leaned more towards the card being "accidently" cleaned off. After speaking with the catering manager who told me that his staff would NEVER remove anything and security that couldn't pinpoint where on the video it was removed, all was lost. At the very least, you'd think I'd receive an apology from the hotel. Not at all. And no follow up on the "investigation." Needless to say, this terrible experience ruined what was such a beautiful evening and occasion. I pray that this never happens to anyone else.

  • 2 Day getaway

This grand old hotel was a perfect location for us. We were within walking distance to shopping and great restaurants. The staff was friendly, courteous and very helpful. We could have not asked for a better experience.

  • Home away from home - Amazing Staff - Beautiful Hotel

by lakshmidas on 2019-06-16 07:43 am

The Drake is beautiful and comforting, and the staff have been extremely helpful. I want to especially thank Kossiwa, who really went out of her way for me.

I was visiting family in Chicago shorty after my father's death - and had booked a different hotel in the downtown area. When I arrived at the other hotel, I was very disappointed with the atmosphere and the quality of the room - and in my vulnerable state, I really needed an environment that would make me feel safe and cared for.

I called the Drake and explained the situation, and Kossiwa arranged a lovely room for me on the spot, and at a reasonable rate. I came straight over, and she helped me at check in - and booked me in a great room, honoring my Hilton Honors membership and my room preference. She couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I felt so grateful - and she continued to be helpful throughout my stay of several days in lots of little and big ways. In addition, on my departure, there was a huge windstorm predicted and I had to extend my stay -- again, she went out of her way to help me do that at the same rate that I had enjoyed.

My stay was in February, and I've been thinking of her kindness and helpfulness ever since. She deserves great kudos. Because of her, and the rest of the helpful staff at the Drake, I will continue to come back when visiting family in Chicago. Thank you so much!

  • This Iconic Hotel disappoints

    by DeeGee04 on 2019-06-15 08:32 pm

We came here to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary at the hotel we got married. When we checked in, (after my husband mentioned it while making the reservation and calling the day before), it was unclear that this 'unique' stay was acknowledged - I rather quietly mentioned to the staff person checking us in and again, it was rather unclear whether she heard me or acknowledged this fact. We just assumed our luggage would be sent up promptly - we waited a bit and decided to make our way onto Michigan Ave. We came back an hour later and no luggage - now we didn't have a whole lot of time to get ready for our dinner reservation. We called to ask our luggage be brought up asap - it came within 5-10 minutes. The bellman apologized profusely, refused to take a tip and asked what we needed - there was no luggage stand so he said he would have two sent up immediately - he also said he'd send up robes and slippers. We left for dinner, didn't come up to room until 6 hours later - no luggage stand and no robe and slippers were ever sent up -disappointing. On our 2nd night, we were looking forward to the Sat. night entertainment advertised (as we did on Fri. night) - Rosie and The Rivets were due to play - a 50s/60s group who we in fact, saw during the day while we were strolling the Wells St art fair. When we went to the large room w/Bar where entertainment had been the previous night, it was surprisingly quiet - we asked a server where Rosie and the Rivets were - she said they didn't show up - I said they were at the art fair during the day - she said she knew that - interestingly, when my husband checked their website, the Drake wasn't even listed on there as a place they were due to play - that was a disappointment and seemed like a big snafu - just didn't seem right for this classy hotel. Instead, we went to the piano bar and listened to the piano player for a bit before his break. The hotel did send up a bottle of Proseco our first night. Overall, I did not feel like the Drake lived up to its iconic image in my mind of a hotel with class and panache.

    Owner Response
    Dear DeeGee04,

Congratulations on your 35th wedding anniversary! We were honored that you chose to celebrate with us as you were married at The Drake in 1984. We apologize if our approach was too subtle in assisting with your celebration. We upgraded your room from the reserved standard king to a Lake View king, and hope that you enjoyed the Prosecco delivered to your room Friday evening. It is stories like yours that make The Drake such a unique place to work, and we want to celebrate these stories accordingly.
The delay with luggage and missing bathrobes is not typical of the service we strive to provide at our iconic hotel, and we regret that this was the first impression of your special stay with us. Our team was equally disappointed in the miscommunication with the band that Saturday night. This is the first time something like this has happened, and our team tried to make it right by offering drinks for disappointed guests. This has been addressed with the band to avoid such a snafu in the future. We are terribly sorry that this impacted your celebrations for the evening.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for future anniversaries. Please reach out to us directly at CHIDHVIFOM2@hilton.com so that my team and I can ensure a flawless celebration.

    Erica

  • The Drake is worth it

    by Trek09464860993 on 2019-06-15 07:46 pm

Great Hotel and perfect location. I love the classic look with modern features. If you can stay on the executive level it's worth it. I felt like I stepped back in time when walking around the property. Their attention to detail is impeccable.
