  • Luxurious, Classical Style - Comfortable, Welcoming & Well-Located

    by Joanna H on 2019-08-19 09:47 am

This is a luxury, stylish hotel, conveniently located for exploring the gracious, neo-classical American capital, Washington DC. The rooms reflect the setting with gorgeous colonial-style decor in traditional, neo-classical good taste, with large prints of famous buildings aeoud the capital on the walls. The foyer and public spaces are in chic modern yet traditonal marble style, and it has panelled lifts and an upstairs landing also with chandeliers and period style furniture which give the hotel an air of luxury and refinement. The bathroom facilities were luxurious, the bedrooms have refrigerators included, however wifi was extra, which was disappointing and the compulsory resort fee which covers this ended up being an expensive extra. The restaurant space feels more like a breakfast area or luxury bar and the menu was rather outloandish and trying a bit too hard to be chic, meaning there were not many suitable choices for children and the ones for adults were rather eclectic. Prices were on the expensive side, as portions were so small that we had to order 6 meals between four of us to feel adequately fed. This is probably why the restaurant was virtually empty, despite helpful serving staff and well-presented, reasonably tasty food. There are however, several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Overall, we would recommend this hotel for business or pleasure and would happily stay here again.

Joanna, we're very happy there were many positive elements to your stay at The Fairfax at Embassy Row, particularly the old world charm of our iconic building. That said, we would be even happier if all aspects of your visit had been ideal. We're sorry you weren't satisfied with our dining options, although it's good to know that this didn't detract too much from your stay, for as you note, there are many restaurants nearby. Thank you for the five stars and your recommendation. We hope to see you again soon.

  • Empty Shell

by albrummer on 2019-08-18 05:59 am

This faded historic hotel promises much more than it delivers. The room was spacious but dowdy and the bathroom not thoroughly cleaned. There is no room service and no laundry bags. The valet parking at $52 a night is a rip off. Almost as expensive to park a car as to rent a room!! There is virtually no breakfast service of any worth you less you like drinking coffee put of paper cups on vacation. So be prepared to visit a local cafe instead. The bar area smells of stale food. The porters and valet parking people were polite and helpful which is more than can be said of reception staff who seemed disinterested in everything except forcing upgrades down your throat. A bitter disappointment for a well located hotel which should offer a lot more.

We're very concerned that your stay fell short of your expectations. It seems we missed several opportunities to make a good impression and, for this, we hope you'll accept our sincere apologies. We'll be reviewing your comments with our staff so that moving forward, we, without fail, provide the exceptional stay our guests expect from us. We hope you'll allow us another chance to get everything right and win you over.

  • Cool location, big room, excelent service

by DIARKASS on 2019-08-15 04:01 pm

The Fairfax is located in an amazing and safe location in Dupont Circle, two blocks away from the Metro Station and near restaurants and coffee shops. Our 4th floor Double bedroom was considerable big, perfect for four of us, with a couch and chairs. The beds were comfortable and AC worked properly. The room had coffee machine and a small fridge. The bathroom has also lots of space. It is an historic building which is very cool. A downside was that our windows, although big, overlooked another building so there was no view, however since we did not spend our days in the room it did not bother us. The door?s room could use an update to avoid letting in at night so much light from the hall to make for better sleep quality. Checking in and out was fast and easy. Overall, we were happy with our choice and would come back if we visit DC in the future.

  • Excellent lodgings, kind service

    by IvanSusanin1613 on 2019-08-14 010:14 pm

I was greatly impressed with the kindness and thoroughness of the service. The airline had lost my bag, which of course had my toiletries. The front desk gave me tooth care and shaving supplies. When I casually asked to verify my metro route to the place for which I came to Washington to the front desk worker (I didn't catch her name), she immediately gave me VERY detailed printed directions that saved me a lot of time (and since my food was in the lost bag, she gave me directions to a Trader Joe's that was closer than the one I knew about). Very nice rooms, too! The only drawback is the lack of a microwave, which is crucial if you self-cater while traveling solo. Not a cheap hotel, but I happened to find an unusually low price through Expedia, so keep an eye open. Very close to the DuPont metro station, which depending on your route and airport, is very convenient when flying in. Thanks again for a pleasant stay!

You are very welcome. It was our pleasure to provide you with a pleasant stay and enhance your DC experience. We understand how frustrating it is when the airlines lose your luggage and we were glad to assist you in replacing your items. We were also happy to help you navigate the Metro. Please stay again at The Fairfax at Embassy Row and we encourage you to check our website for information about our special offers and packages so you may get the most value out of your visit.

We spent 3 nights at the Fairfax at Embassy Row. It is a lovely property, with the charm of bygone days but modern conveniences. Extremely clean, beds were comfy, staff was friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
