  • Great hotel

by NorfolkMungo on 2019-06-24 09:05 am

On my 5 state / 10 day trip to the US The Fairfax was the most stylish dressed hotel we stayed in.
Greeted by lovely staff both on the door access & reception staff.
My room was very clean, with everything I required. Tea/Coffee station, fridge, toiletries.
Sheets & towels lovey & white
    Nice neighbourhood
    Would recommend to anyone

  • Solid Hotel

by gersimpkins on 2019-06-24 07:23 am

I stayed at the Fairfax in May and liked it so much that I'm staying there again in a week. The hotel is within walking distance of a lot of restaurants and bars and is a block or two from DuPont Circle. The room I was originally given had a tiny bathroom where, if you sat on the toilet your knees would almost touch the sink. I didn't complain but I did write a review for Expedia since they'd sent me an email. Apparently, the hotel monitors these things because I was contacted the next morning and shown a different room. I was pleased with the new room but even more pleased with the responsiveness of the staff.

Having to carry your bags up a few stairs to get to the elevators is a small annoyance but I have no complaints about the hotel. The bar even had hard to find Pappy Van Winkle.

  • Lovely, Quiet, Friendly Hotel

    by Carlita62 on 2019-06-23 11:19 am

I joined my husband who was staying here on business for just one night, but it was perfect. Lovely, really comfy bed and room. The hotel, which apparently, used to be private condominiums, is well kept up if a bit dated. We skipped the "fast food" breakfast bar to find a place (Kramer Books cafe on Connecticut about 2 blocks walk away) where we could enjoy a real sit-down breakfast. While staff was friendly enough, Mr. Rama, the gracious greeter, bellhop was our favorite. He was a fountain of information and helpful suggestions. When I returned later for my luggage that I'd left with him, and asked him where I could catch a bus to National Cathedral, Mr. Rama practically walked me to the bus stop (on Massachusetts Avenue not far from the hotel). Other photos on Trip Advisor show the hotel's amenities. I only snapped a photo of the view
from our room and learned that the building across from us was/is Anderson House Museum. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit it.

We are so glad you had the opportunity to join us even for only one night! It sounds like you made the most of your visit and we're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the comfort of your guest room. Mr. Rama along with the rest of our team will be flattered by your kind remarks, thank you! Please come back, we'd love to see you again at the Fairfax at Embassy Row!

  • Paper plates and plastic cups

    by GF_Gavin on 2019-06-22 06:37 pm

It seemed extraordinary to me that such a grand and elegant hotel - and one that obviously prides itself on its service and its history (but 1927 is not historic to us Europeans)!) should serve all its food on paper plates and use plastic cups and plastic cutlery. Apart from the sheer waste it just looks naff and cheap! And there were paper cups in the rooms too. Any decent hotel should be using china and treating its guests properly, not like they're on a picnic!
And the breakfast offering was meagre, with nothing gluten-free on offer. This is not good enough nowadays!
My room was blighted by noise from a building utility chimney 24 hours a day - behind a louvred door in the room - so it was difficult to sleep. I mentioned this to reception and they moved me to another quieter room without question, so it's obviously an ongoing issue.
It's a beautiful elegant hotel with large, beautifully-furnished rooms, but the paper plates and plastic cups are just awful and should be replaced with something better. And be aware that some rooms are affected by utility noise.
Also, P Street just around the corner has restaurants, but is pretty rundown. Connecticut Avenue is much better with nicer restaurants and a good bookshop.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. The paper products we use are green friendly as part of our green initiative and also perfect for our on-the-go guests, however, we regret it was not to your liking. We are glad that overall your stay was comfortable and that our staff was able to accommodate a room change. We appreciate your feedback and would love the opportunity to welcome you back to provide you with a stay that meets all your expectations.

  • Once a Ritz Carlton Hotel

    by Elizabeth S on 2019-06-20 08:04 pm

I was very pleased with our stay at The Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They do not have a restaurant on site. But the breakfast market offered a variety of delicious pastries, bagels and muffins. They also had bottled water (VOSS), juices, breakfast sandwiches, chips, fresh fruit, yogurt cups and fruit/granola/yogurt parfait in ready to go cups. That was my favorite. Coffee was free from 6-9:00am. The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds were super comfortable. One night we were kept up late by a delivery truck in the alley so I recommend not getting a room on that side of hotel. The Dupont Circle neighborhood is beautiful with all the mansions and Embassy's lining Massachusetts Ave. and SAFE! We were able to walk to the White House and other places downtown from our hotel. We sometimes took Uber for going to The Mall or U.S. Capitol. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend. I give it 5 Stars!!!
