  • Noise is the Least of Your Worries

    by dorar838 on 2020-04-06 11:59 am

Yes, I knew it was a college town and yes I understood when Congress Hotel advised that it is noisy in downtown Tucson. What they did not tell you was that the noisy night-club was inside the hotel just below the hotel room window, feet away. The consequent vibrations in that geographically fragile area was disturbing. The loud, hedonistic parties lasted until 2 am except Sunday. But then at 7 am begins the power wash to clear away the debris and booze from the night before. What you don't know is that it will be packed, wall-to-wall people shouting at the top of their voices. What you don't know is that you will be accosted by prostitutes and drug dealers right outside of the hotel entrance. What you are not told is the swanky hotel block is the hang out for biker gangs, demented drunks, and just your garden variety drunks. Everyone on the take. My room was not attended to for two days. The breakfast and service was great and the people at the front counter were professional and kind. They can do better than working there.

    Hello dorar838,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you had such an unpleasant time. We appreciate your acknowledgment of the fact that we did inform you about the noise from our night club which is clearly stated on your confirmation email and at check-in. Hotel Congress has been the beating heart of our vibrant city for more than 100 years. The downtown area, although small has blossomed into a welcoming blend of restaurants, cafes, shops and art galleries which is often filled with families and students walking around. Hotel Congress is proud to be the cultural hub of downtown which has featured world-class entertainment since 1985. With the ever-expanding student housing emerging in the neighborhood, it is only natural that students would be magnetized to our establishment where they are welcomed to enjoy our legendary nightlife. We understand that this is certainly not for everyone. We appreciate you giving us a try and hope you find a different hotel that better suits your needs.

  • Never Again

    by joecO7518XC on 2020-03-07 01:32 pm

Notwithstanding the hotel's caveat that it's a 'rock hotel,' nothing prepared us for the audio assault we suffered through until 2AM. The volume of the DJ below our window made the PSYOPS attack on Manuel Noriega seem like a zen garden in comparison. Management should decide whether they want to serve as a hotel or entertain all night because the two activities are not compatible. Ear plugs would not keep your bed from vibrating. Definitely check the activities scheduled for the night of your reservation. In addition, the showers alternate between cold & scalding without warning.

    Owner Response
    Hello joecO7518XC,

Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry you had such an unpleasant stay. We are wholly transparent about the fact that our hotel can be a very noisy hotel; some rooms more than others. We share this information with guests in their pre-check in confirmation email, and again during check-in, both on the policy the guest signs and verbally. Although many patrons flock to the hotel to be part of the vibrant, downtown culture, we understand that it is not for everyone. We encourage you to come back and ask for a room in one of the quieter areas of the building for a different experience. Best regards.

  • Great character. Just not sure I'd stay there again.

    by Julie P on 2020-03-03 04:55 am

Rude front desk clerk put us in very loud room over bar. Maid supervisor and nice manager switched us to another room at the quiet end of the hotel. Not sure why the desk clerk was trying to punish us, probably because I asked her to call up to the maids and let them know we were waiting for our room. Check in at 3pm, we arrived around 4pm, didn't get access our room until about 5pm. No TV. Toilet is partially positioned under the bathroom sink so your knees have to fit under the sink. Toilet had to be plunged repeatedly. They left us a plunger for us to do it ourselves. Yech. Even plunging didn't solve the problem and we were embarrassed by how we left the room for the maid. Manager offered 15% discount after I asked for some compensation for the defunct plumbing.

    Hello Julie,

I am the assistant rooms manager who addressed the issues you had during your stay. Thank you for acknowledging that I was able to mitigate at least some of the concerns you brought to my attention. As I explained in person, our front desk staff are expected to disallow guests from bringing alcohol purchased outside the hotel up to their room, according to our liquor policy. I believe it was this point which may have created some tension at check-in, when our front desk attendant was attempting to enforce hotel policy. I spoke with the attendant just after your check-in to ensure that we maintain a welcoming manner whenever going over the rules of the hotel. Telling guests they can't do certain things is not something we enjoy doing, however it is a necessary aspect of our business. In regard to the room you were originally assigned- this was strictly based on the availability at the time your reservation was made. I'm very glad that I was able to intervene and find you a better option that had become available just before your arrival. As for the plumbing issues- I personally fixed that problem, even if temporarily. Unfortunately, it was not brought to our attention again until I spoke with you at checkout. Since we did not know the toilet continued to have issues, we were not given another opportunity to rectify the situation. At checkout you stated that overall you had a good time. I am glad that despite these issues, you found a positive experience at the hotel. We hope that in the very least, our swift response to unforeseen challenges demonstrates our care for the customer. We hope you come back again and that your next visit is much more peaceful.

    Best wishes,

  • Great Lobby, Great Food in the Cup Cafe

    by Michaela H on 2020-02-21 11:46 am

We loved the restored lobby, very nostalgic and worth a visit. But, if you are hungry, do not miss the Cup Cafe. It has a wonderful kitchen, fresh desserts baked on premises, and good service. There is public parking in an underground garage just across the street, and during the Gem Show, the free shuttle picks up on the side street next to the hotel.

    Hi Michaela,

Thank you for the feedback! We are glad you were able to enjoy everything that makes our hotel the gem that it is. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

  • Loud.....

    by Bao H on 2020-01-27 05:42 pm

I knew what I was getting myself into. The rooms here are pretty simple and gets to the point. No fancy frills or thrills; bed & bathroom. There is a bar and a restaurant downstairs. The nightclub of course can get really loud!

I got really drunk before falling asleep, but my buddy said he stayed up almost all night because of the noise.

Needless to say, this place is not for light sleepers.

    Owner Response
    Hello Bao,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We have six bars and two stages on property in fact, and an award-winning restaurant, as you mentioned. We are the thriving cultural hub of Tucson where guests can dine, celebrate and socialize all in one locale. Certainly, most guests will find the rooms nearest our music venue to be loud, which we remain completely transparent about. However, we do offer quieter rooms which are quite peaceful. Just be sure to book in advance to ensure you are able to reserve the best room option. We hope you stay with us again!
