    Great location within walking distance to city center, charming rooms and courteous staff. Wiggins Tavern was closed at the time of our visit so we ate at the Coolidge Park Cafe. The food was unremarkable. I would recommend this hotel.

  • Wedding weekend

    We stayed in Hotel Northampton during a weekend wedding. Our room was small, but clean. The hotel is historic and retains many of its old world "charms." These charms are unfortunately, not very suited to my taste. Despite the antique looking furniture, I felt the whole place could use an upgrade. The room we stayed in only had a double bed, which I expect in Europe, but not in the US. It was okay for 1 night but to me, it's not worth the price.

    My husband and I stayed at the Northampton Hotel room 309 for one-night. The hotel is a classic historic hotel. While the hotel is nicely kept the reason why I am giving it 3 start rating is because the room we stayed in strongly smelled like smoke. The smell was very bad, and it impregnated our clothes, hair etc... When we checked in, at 2:30pm the smell did not bother us because we dropped off our bags and left the room. We returned around 11pm. After siting in the room for about 30 mins the smell really started to bother us. At midnight, we went to the front desk to complain. The front person told my husband that they couldn't move us to another room because the hotel was at full capacity. The doorman and manager tried to air out the room with a special machine which only helped for 10 mins and then the room went back to smelling again. I will admit that the manager was polite and credited us $35.00 on our bill for the "inconvenience". However, $35.00 did not make up for having to stay in that room for the night, for having a very uncomfortable night because of the smell and for the cost of having to dry clean our clothes to get rid of the smell. We stayed at this hotel last year and we didn't have any problems and we were disappointed that this happened to us this year. I hope the hotel takes measures to really air out the furnishings, window treatments and clean or replace the rug of the room. We like the Northampton Hotel, we want to stay there again and we hope that something like this doesn't happen again.

    A quaint New England Hotel that you want to like, but in reality it is far from quaint and more run down and smells of mildew in the halls. Service is subpar. Here is an example: I wrote to the hotel 48 hours before we were coming to address food allergy issues with the restaurant. I communicated directly with the Executive Chef who gave me assurances all would be addressed. We could not get food for my son. We would arrive for breakfast at the preplanned time and after 30 minutes - we would receive raw potatoes and undercooked Canadian bacon on a plate. The second day we did not even receive it after 30 minutes! The waiter saw the email as well and said he apologized but the kitchen was not prepared.

    We have stayed in numerous Historic Hotels - service is usually impeccable even if the musty smell exists!

  • Classic hotel in an art-filled small town

    This historic hotel has kept its elegance while making everything up to date and creating a completely non-stuffy atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful, anticipating our needs. Two great restaurants, one old and romantic, one open and cheery, but same great food in each. We came here for one night before a conference in nearby Amherst, but it would be great for a weekend getaway, as well.
