  • Beautifully quaint & historic inn & restaurant you won't want to ever leave!

    by memorylane18 on 2019-10-23 08:41 pm

The history of the inn and beauty of the area and nearby attractions (Winterthur, etc.) are reasons enough to stay here, but the rooms are wonderful, luxurious, comfortable and clean, with turn down service (with candies!), a free minibar, thoughtful touches such as a cheese tray/knife, corkscrew, Portmeiron mugs for their gourmet teas in the rooms, generous soaps/shampoos, soft warm robes, etc., a relaxing bathtub, etc. etc. The staff is marvelous-Alexa (@ front desk) was so helpful and kind, and gave me information about the Inn and spa, & introduced me to the complementary teas and gingersnaps on the table nearby. The Inn also has a happy hour with delicious local free cheeses and wine by the glass for a small price. Enjoying these at a classic wooden table, lounging in front of a roaring fire with classic books nearby to borrow, with a glass of good wine or soft drink, are my ideas of Paradise! Alexa was lovely and helpful, & so were Jacob and Rob at the Krazy Kat restaurant (great food!!) and everyone working at the Inn whom we came into contact with! I would go back here in a heartbeat!! The cars are parked a slight distance from the rooms, so carrying your luggage to your rooms across the street is necessary and might be tough for those who have walking/carrying issues. This leaves the lanes by the rooms free to walk around safely, though. Thank you, Montchanin Village!! It took a village to make me happy, but they sure did!!

  • Great place to visit but not to stay

    by 64Kat2017 on 2019-10-03 09:00 am

We had looked forward to staying in another unique inn. The location is great to visit all the local attractions but not if you want to sleep. Our suite was situated directly at a busy intersection. The traffic is either revving up to get through the light or trucks air braking to stop. Traffic continues all night long. We did request a suite but didn't understand why this as a "premiere" location? Also the walkway is unattached slate, some move as you walk on them and you do need to walk. You park next to the registration area and then have to cross the road to get to your room or Krazy Kats Restaurant. The walkways are sloped as well. If you have mobility issues, do not stay here. I was hoping for a lot more hospitality but was disappointed. They even charge for an evening wine in the reception area rather than a complimentary drink as most 4-star hotels provide. The decor was lovely but not enough to make up for short fallings.

    Owner Response
I am so sorry and hopefully you will come back and visit us again.

Just let us know that you were not happy with the room and we will make sure you are in a different location.

  • Historic buildings renovated inside to 5-star status

    by nbh20 on 2019-10-02 07:35 am

This village was originally built for the workers at the Hagley Gunpowder works next to the village - back in the 1700s. It has been completely renovated in the past several decades so that the houses contain suites and guest rooms that are 5-star in all possible ways. We have stayed there fairly often over the years and always feel like royalty. We especially like the honor bar in the large central building called the Barn, where you can make yourself a cocktail or pour a glass of wine or beer, and sit in a large, very comfortably furnished room with a huge, roaring fireplace ( in season). The staff is very polite and helpful - we requested a non-slip bathtub mat for our room, which housekeeping provided immediately.

  • Unique retreat âcosy elegance.

This is our third trip to Montchanin village. We fell in love with it instantly on our first visit five years ago, and it has never failed to live up to our first impressions. Each suite is extremely charming, with classic furnishings and modern amenities, all in perfect repair. The grounds and gardens are simply glorious, and provide many spots for simple outdoor leisure. The main gathering hall has the feel of an elegant country Lodge, with an honor bar )very civilized!), a large fireplace, board games, and inviting sofas. Krazy Kat's restaurant is first rate, and strikes the same balance between coziness and elegance as the rest of the inn. The arrangement of cottages a minute gardens and stone pathways is completely unique, secluded, idyllic. The Inn is an ideal retreat in the Brandywine area.

  • Sweet & Quaint, but Walking and Stairs

    by Alexa_in_Wanderland on 2019-08-26 10:28 am

My stay was pleasant. Room was large with walk-in shower and wet bar with refrigerator. The bed was comfortable, BUT was high off the ground in the period of the furniture However, did not have steps to get in - I had to jump up! :-). Staff was nice. **There are many little cottages. The staff informs you of these details when you are making a reservation. LISTEN TO THEM. THEY ARE NOT KIDDING. You park up by the main house where the main desk is - take the elevator on the side of the main staircase to the lobby if you have anyone with respiratory issues or seniors. The staff will use a golf cart to bring you to your room. These cottages have stairs - if you are not on the ground floor, you may have to walk up two flights of stairs. It is a bit of a walk on hills, to walk back and forth to your room/cottage. I liked it, but be advised.
