  • So cozy

    by Kim S on 2018-09-02 02:57 pm

We have stayed at the Inn at Montchanin Village several times over the past few years and it is always a welcoming experience. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was perfect with wonderful amenities. The location is excellant for visiting Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, Nemours, The Brandywine Museum and more. We always enjoy our meals at Krazy Kat's restaurant and the breakfast is fabulous. We look forward to returning again and again.

  • Historic, clean and cozy!

Its not your boutique hotel experience as this is a historic inn and a step back into time . . . so takes what comes with that statement. I am usually a fan of artsy boutique hotels, but could not resist the temptation to stay somewhere historic that is deeply rooted into the history of the Du Pont family and the Winterthur Estate.

It was a dreary rainy day on our arrival, but we were greeted with pleasantries, hot coffee and pounds of chocolate, literally it sits on a big scale, in the lobby of the main house. Early upon arrival, our room was not ready, so we indulged in a game of cards in the reception hall whilst we waited. Although grand and inviting, the room could use some updating to add warmth and comfort. No music made for a very uncomfortable environment, so we asked the attendant at the reception desk if they could turn on some music. She stated that although they did not have a sound system, she could turn on the self played piano. I was perplexed, because they had speakers attached to the walls, but she said they were for events and she did not have access to them - so piano music was the only option. After a round of cards, our rooms became available at the allotted time 3p.m. and we were checked in promptly. Since it was raining, the attendant offered to escort us by cart to our bungalow so that we did not get soaked from car to room; I found this very gracious and hospitable of them. The Rooms - keeping in mind that this is an Inn and not modern hotel - the rooms were VERY large, comfortable and clean. Since it was raining, we opened the windows to hear the drops hit the garden outside our window. I do wish however that we would have been offered a room with a porch or somewhere to sit and watch the rain shower as it delayed our visit to Longwood Garden, so we might as well relaxed and enjoyed its tranquility. Our room was equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, table utensils and other equipment one might need to feed a family or extended stay. The bathroom was very spacious, nicely decorated and added touch of fresh flowers. The Restaurant - KRAZY KATS is AMAZING. We only had breakfast there upon our departure, but the food was Krazy good and made me wish we had dined there for dinner. All in all, we had a lovely stay. My only feedback to management would be to look at their main reception area with a fine eye. The look is not quite historic, but not modern either - its a bit in limbo. Either go all the way historic and pay respect to the heritage of the Inn or go more cozy comfortable with a cohesive lodge aesthetic. Either way, definitely invest in an sound system to pipe in soothing music to greet guests and make for a more inviting atmosphere to hang out and play some games.

  • Wonderful Getaway

My husband and I stayed during an anniversary getaway. Looked the historic and history to this place. It is beautiful and staff so friendly. We stayed in the Colonel, a deluxe King room. We looked the private little porch with 2 rockers and enjoyed part of the afternoon here. The room was very clean with a kitchenette, sitting area, fireplace and bed on the opposite side. The bathroom was beautiful with a soaking tub and separate walk in shower. Our one call to room service for ice for answered within minutes. Location is close to so many places.

  • Relaxing

    by California_Joan on 2018-05-30 10:13 am

The Inn at Montchanin Village is historic. We spent Mother's Day weekend getting pampered at the spa and spending the night in a two story townhouse. The spa was wonderful. The changing area is small and not so private but it was all females so we just had a good time. We had wine and snacks. We stayed in The Morgan, a two bedroom, two bath .townhouse. It was very comfortable. Decorated nicely. Huge bedrooms each with a large bathroom. Great for two couples or parents with teenagers. Turndown service was a nice touch. Highly recommend staying here for a relaxing treat. Krazy Kats is the restaurant on the premises. We couldn't get reservations that weekend so not sure about that. Parking for our unit was right in front of our door.

  • gram's room at the old age home

    by MeraKi25 on 2018-03-06 04:46 am

The review is titled as such because this is exactly what this reminded me of- a grandmother's room at an assisted living facility. Don't get me wrong, the concept is lovely. The set up of the homes along the cobblestone path is quaint and serene. However, this is defined as a "luxury boutique hotel." Luxury to me does not mean decor from a 1980s motel in the western US. The Aztec chairs match the same print on the bedskirt and window boxes. The coverlet was tattered. Worst of all was that my room was 80F when I entered it. The HVAC system was turned to "off," and the room did not get below 76 all evening. As a single female traveler, opening windows to sleep is just not an option. I left a note for cleaning staff to set it to 68 the following morning, and then that evening, it got down into the mid 50s in the room. There are no options to deny cleaning services or turn down service. Towels are replaced daily, which creates a lot of unnecessary waste. Cabinets in the bathroom are locked, and counter space is taken up by all the glassware (also unnecessary), toiletries, giant tissue box and hairdryer. A shelf would do wonders for all of that stuff. Staff is very nice. Lobby is well appointed and the honor bar is a nice idea, although we did not partake. This place could be a destination spot with some renovations. Right now, I'm just disappointed.
