  • Great Place we enjoyed it very much

    This Inn is a wonderful change of pace and the staff is excellent. Our room, the Ashton, was clean, like new carpet, wonderful linens and a huge modern luxury bath. The grounds were immaculate and the staff went out of the way to please. We enjoyed the evening honor bar, the restaurant, and the coffee and soft drinks in the room. The front desk came over immediately to help us with the gas fireplace in our room. The decor of the room was neither historic or updated, but was clean and in good condition. Only glitch was we were almost checked into a room $100 more than our reservation, but fortunately the proper room was available. We would stay again.

  • Comfortable home from home

    As a couple traveling with two teenagers, we enjoyed two nights in Morgan, a two bed suite with a small living room and kitchenette downstairs. The bedrooms (both upstairs) were spacious and comfortable with large ensuite bathrooms. There are Tv's in the master bedroom and living room. There is a pod coffee machine as well as refreshments in the hotel lobby. The Inn at Montchanin is conveniently located for Longwood Gardens and the other local attractions. This was our second stay here and we will defintely return, if we go back to the region.

  • Not what it once was

    The Inn at Montchanin is a quaint and lovely cluster of small houses with nice gardens. The staff is very friendly, but the place is NOT what it once was. On a recent visit:
    - the fireplace did not work - the staff came over to fix, it worked for 15 minutes and then went out. the next day, we asked them to look into it again, we returned to the room with the fireplace going strong (who knows for how long) and the room temperature was 80+ degrees. We turned it off for the night, and it wouldn't work the next morning.
    - the phone didn't work - when we called to report the fireplace issue, we could hear the front desk, but they couldn't hear us - had to call on our mobile phone.
    - the furniture was worn - threadbare arms on the upholstered chair, chipped desk chair, and a terribly uncomfortable loveseat.
    - property showing wear - bed's coverlet was frayed at the edges.

    On the plus side, the sheets, towels, and robes are very nice, the staff very cheery and helpful (even though they couldn't fix the fireplace).

    This trip was a marked change from prior visits. The Inn has always been one of our favorite places, but it's clearly in need of some help from too much deferred maintenance.

    Also, Krazy Kat, the Inn's restaurant has fallen in quality and interest since earlier visits. The cuisine used to be a "wow", but not any longer. And service in the restaurant is just barely average.

    Hopefully, The Inn at Montchanin will return to former glory days and once again be the cozy, luxury destination it one was, but at them moment, it's a little sad by comparison.

  • Group Dinner at the Crowâs Nest

    Fantastic dinner with colleagues. Food was really good. Service was great. The only challenge was finding the entry for someone from out of town and parking.
    Would recommend the salmon and the chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting was fantastic.

  • Cute but waaay outdated

    No doubt it's cute in a 1950s, Beaver Cleaver sort of way. But let's be real, this place needs gutted and, even then, is not for business travelers or those who might arrive without a car (e.g. Uber).

    Let's start with the basics: lug your luggage up to the second floor to check in (nice front desk people) and then you are directed to what could be a several hundred yards to your building, which contains your suite. A courtesy shuttle would be nice, especially in the cold or inclement weather. And, that distance to the main building and absence of nearby dining alternatives, leaves room service as the only real option. Inside the room, welcome to your grandma's house, with old plaid couches, floral print drapes, an old Black & Decker microwave, TV trays (remember those?) and the cutest little TVs that were too old and too small 15+ years ago. The cheap cable package means a poor picture quality at any rate. Don't expect to be blown away by the free Internet (I'd pay for fast internet). Bottom line is that this is anything but ideal for business travelers and best when visited only during "good" weather.
