  • up to the Menger's usual standards

As ever, the Menger maintains a superlative standard of excellence. Dining and accommodation were superb, and the ambience was wonderful. The location fronting Alamo Plaza can't be beat, as far as access to the downtown sights is concerned.

  • Historic Hotel with ambience

Like that place as it is a reflection of southern Texas in proximity to the Alamo and the other attractions of San Antonio. The architecture and design of the historic hotel section is worth to explore.

  • A dream stay for history buffs!

Fantastic hotel! Very classy. Loved the history of the place. And the staff was super helpful. As a baseball fan, I was especially appreciative of the fact that Babe Ruth had stayed there. The location was perfect as well.

    Owner Response
Thank you for the excellent review and score, here's a little more history during Babe Ruth's visit as reported by
The Express News, San Antonio "In the spring of 1930, Babe Ruth was arguably the most recognized man in the United States. And when the New York Yankees' traveling party arrived just before 8 a.m. March 31, outside the Menger for an exhibition game later that afternoon against the San Antonio Indians, Ruth was mobbed." His visit was overwhelming and Babe Ruth's photo is the most photographed to this day by visitors to our Historic Menger Hotel.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit, please come back again.

We stayed here for one night on a Riviera holiday to the Deep South USA. The hotel was built in the 19th century, had an interesting history and situated in the centre of San Antonio. The bedroom was decorated in keeping with the building and was really cosy, clean and comfortable. We had breakfast there, which was well cooked and there was a good variety. Wish we could have stayed longer.

    Owner Response

  • Great hotel

    by Margaret K on 2019-05-21 05:40 am

Stayed here for one night whilst in San Antonio. Hotel very central, very clean rooms although not large they are very comfortable, had a good nights sleep. Staff could not have been nicer or more helpful or polite. Didn't get the chance to take full use of hotel but would stay again. Lovely garden area as well as a swimming pool with jacuzzi, lobby area very relaxing to sit and watch the world go by. Nice bar area but so much to look at around hotel at the history of hotel. Had breakfast in morning very nice and freshly made omelettes to order. Can't say enough about this hotel, beautiful, thank you.

    Owner Response
Yes, our Historic Menger is centrally located in the heart of the city, neighbors to the Alamo and everything is practically walking distance. The Historic Menger Bar was added in 1887 and Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Volunteer Rough Riders in this bar. Thank you for sharing your experience and for the excellent score and review. We hope you will return for another visit soon.
