  • What has happened to this place?

    by Mom3chicks on 2019-02-20 03:41 pm

I arrived at 11:00 pm last night. The street was blocked off on both sides so there was NO ACCESS to the hotel with my car and many bags. I called the front desk and the less than helpful agent told me the street was not blocked off. I drove around the block three times and saw caution tape blocking access from both sides of the hotel. I explained this to no avail.

I then asked to speak to a bellman. She transferred me. NO ANSWER! I'm talking like 25 rings with no answer or option to leave a message.

I call back because I have a lot of documents with me and can't physically carry them and my suitcase etc from self park. (I had intended to valet due to my many documents, but there was no where to pull up.)

The next person argues with me, telling me the street is not blocked. I explain, for the third time now, yes BOTH sides of the street are blocked. I again ask for a bellman. She says he will meet me on Orange.

I pull up on the curb unload my many boxes in the freezing cold. No one shows up!

I have to decide whether to reload everything and leave or continue to wait outside in the cold. I leave my items on the curb and enter the hotel to try and find the bellman. Mind you, the lobby is empty.

I find him and he assists me to load all the boxes on the luggage cart. I then drive to self parking and park.

I cross the street, walk halfway around the block to the door where I can enter the hotel.

I approach the front desk. Two employees are talking to each other. Neither offers to assist me.

I ask for assistance and I get checked in. I come to my room and there is no bottled water. Neither is there a key for the mini bar which is locked. I search for the key everywhere, but it is not on the room.

I call downstairs and the phone rings at least 10 times. The front desk says they have the mini fridge key. Why not give it to me when I check in? After my long drive and giant fiasco checking in, I want a cocktail.

It's now too late to leave my breakfast order on the door (12 am cut off), so I have to wait until the morning.

At 6:30, I call room service. No one answers! I let it ring 40 times while I do my sit-ups. Then, I call the front desk and ask them to connect me. No go; still ringing with no answer. I do my pushups while phone rings and rings.

Then, I finally get through. Slowest order taker in history. I order a smoked salmon omelette. One hour later, look what they bring. The salmon is outside of the omelette and someone forgot to cut the vegetables! (Fork for scale)

I then return home from a long day of work and find my breakfast plate sitting in front of my room. It's 5:36 pm!

I LOVE to write glowing reviews, but I just can't here. This is honestly the worst service I've had a hotel in as long as I can remember. For the price, it is extremely disappointing.

  • Impressive architecture; Good location

This was recommended to me by UCR. I am usually a bit sceptical about faux architecture pretending to be something it is not - but have to admit I was impressed by the quirky/bombastic features. The hotel trys to be upscale but I found it too restrictive. Its the first hotel I have ever been to where bookings for breakfast are compulsary (btw there is a vey good breakfast bar next door) and I thought that refusing my reequest for 2pm checkout was a bit mean (so i speant 4 hours at LAX ahead of red eye to Europe)

  • Continues to be one of my favorite places

Sitting in the patio send me back to Italy. Everywhere you look beautiful greenery and architecture. the staff friendly and the rooms steeped in California history but not old and doggies. Very lux. Perfect for the day or a romantic week end.

  • Turn up the Eagles ...

for full effect when you stay here even though the Mission is not on the cover of Hotel California, maybe it should have been. The neighbors won't mind a little mid-tempo 70's soundtrack with the mission bell.

Like the Hearst Mansion, a medley of every revival style from Spanish to Moorish to Mediterranean to Mission. Similarly don't look too close or you will see the building standards are a bit shoddy. No fuss, no musty smell though. A medley of curios, bells, old pianos, presidential memorabilia and collectibles - traces are everywhere from everywhere in this happy home away from home.

Records and recollections of the smooth SoCal style of the Beverly Hills Hotel which actually made the iconic album cover.

Very tasty eats on premises, not overly pricey too but cramped gym and a full 10 min for hot water in the shower. All part of the experience.

Your Mission, if you choose the accept it, is ... everything, you did, want to try it.

  • Ill stay at the Mission Inn any chance I can!!

The Mission Inn is less than 5 miles from my home but any chance I get to get stay at this incredible hotel, I take it! The historical arcitecture transports me tevery time another time and place in our world. I dont feel like Im in my home town. Each room is unique and beautifully decorated. The environments throughout the hotel are exquisit yet inviting. There is a sense of history, romance, and mystery around each coner... and there are a lot of corners. Thats another thing I love about this hotel. Its not square.
There is so much beauty, depth, and texture in every space of the property that is perfectly situated in the midst of downtown Riverside. While there may not be a lot to experience in Riverside, the Mission Inn is located 45-60 minutes from the ocean, dessert, mountains, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Great location, great year round weather, and to top it off, excellent service. We often will come down for an evening of dinner and drinks at one of their restraunts or just to walk around and soak up all the beauty of the Mission Inn.
