  • Jâs Pfister Hotel review

The Pfister is recognized as one of the national historical hotels of America. Upon checking in mid-afternoon on Tuesday September 18th (for 3 nights), I can certainly see why. Just from the lobby, this hotel screams history, and I feel a small sense of what high society life was like here in downtown Milwaukee back in the late 1800's, including hearing classical music in the background. On the 2nd floor, there are historical photos and displays. My favorites are seeing original room keys and dinner plates and utensils from thanksgiving, 1899.

When booking my room, I opted for one in the "new" tower so that I have a view of Lake Michigan. Now I wish I'd gotten one within the original hotel area. My room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. My only knock was the cafe doesn't open until 6am.

So if you're in downtown Milwaukee, I suggest walking inside this hotel's lobby.

  • Beautiful Premier Luxury Hotel

Our guide on our tour bus told us we had to stop at The Pfster Hotel and have a drink at the lounge on the 23rd floor. We did make a stop at this beautiful hotel with extraordinary architecture. In the lobby level is an Artist in Residence Stephanie Schultz a Milwaukee area fashion designer that works in the Artists Studio. Her designs are historically inspired and very beautiful. She was ironing during our visit and also has her sewing machine set up in the window. She was very inspiring I felt like going home and sewing something creative. Blu the lounge on the 23rd floor of the hotel was not open but we got a personal tour from an employee that we met on the elevator. Attractive lounge with beautiful panoramic views of downtown and Lake Michigan. After our tour we did stop in their Lobby Lounge and have a drink, the bartender was friendly.

  • Lovely historic hotel

I stayed at the Pfister for 3 nights on a business trip, and attended various business functions held in the hotel itself. The Pfister is a beautiful classic venue, dating from an era when design and detail were priority, unlike today's poor attempts at high class style (cold modernity with neither a curving line nor gilded cornice in sight). The staff were all very professional and attentive, exactly how you would expect them to be at such a classy establishment. The various catered meals we had over two days were all fantastic. I loved the grand old hotel feeling.

I am giving four stars, however, because I felt that my room was not quite up to impressive standard set by the lobby and public areas. I was in the newer section and my room had clearly been redone recently, which was nice, however, the style seemed rather incongruous with the rest of the hotel's classic taste. Also, the bathroom floor was not perfectly clean when I first got to my room, which, while not a huge issue, nor something worth complaining about at the time, is the kind of detail I would not expect to be overlooked at a hotel like the Pfister. I will happily note, as I have in other hotel reviews, that all of the bathroom towels were very clean (unlike some other fancy hotels I have stayed in!).

On the whole, I would certainly recommend staying at the Pfister if you find yourself in Milwaukee. It's also a frequent billet for visiting baseball teams and celebrities. There are numerous restaurants nearby, and the historic Third Ward is a short walk away. I had a great time in the grand historic atmosphere, as I enjoy older properties in general. I can't comment on the alleged ghosts, but your mileage may vary!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, Ashley! We appreciate your kind words about our hotel. It sounds like your stay was pleasant and comfortable! I'm glad you enjoyed the aesthetics and overall atmosphere! It was originally designed by architect Charles Koch and features a Romanesque Revival design. Possibly next time, you might want to try our rooms on the historic side of the hotel. It matches the initial decor of the hotel more than the newer tower side. Thank you for choosing The Pfister Hotel! We look forward to having you back for future visits!

This hotel goes over the top in excellent service. Always a wonderful stay and the restaurant/bar areas are upbeat and typically have great music. We enjoyed a jazz singer in the lounge and the view was fabulous also.

  • Rolled out the red carpet

Each and every staff member, from the bell to the bar, treat you like a queen; even when I failed to pack my crown. A stay at the Pfister is enchanting. If you appreciate charm, elegance, the romantic fantasy of Victorian Art (a massive collection), and perfectly mannered staff, make this your home when visiting Milwaukee.
