    Staying in a room 2038 right now. Please fix the clogged sink in the master bathroom while I'm out and about tomorrow. But don't wake me up I'm sleeping in today. Also replace all the burnt out bulbs. $1,600 a night and a clogged sink in bathroom, disappointing. I'll write a fuller review once I check out Friday.

    The service is always amazing at the Plaza Hotel. The servers treat you like family, for example Muhibul is one of the servers in the restaurant in the lobby, and is always kind and hardworking. I would definitely recommend him to everyone!

  • Breakfast at The Plaza

    My friend and I decided to go for breakfast at The Plaza and it did not disappoint. We had pastries and coffee - pastries were so fresh and tasty. The waitress was very friendly - great service! Thank you.

    Okay is the only fitting description of The Plaza. The food is okay, the service in most of the hotel is okay, the service in most eating areas is okay. I am unimpressed by The Plaza. The rooms are large by NYC standards and you can tell that they were fairly recently renovated. The hotel is clean and in a great location. We were able to access everything we wanted to do within a 20 minute walk. If you are looking for the iconic scenes from Eloise or other movies, they are not in the hotel section. Those areas are exclusively for The Plaza residents. This was disappointing, but would not have saved The Plaza from being mediocre. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend staying elsewhere, but I would recommend tempering expectations.

    I arrived at the Plaza on Sunday for a first stay at the property. 6:30pm check in, and the room was ready, upgrade secured and processed quickly. The room wasn't the most modern, but spacious and clean. My expectations increased markedly.

    Yet, after that, the hotel underdelivered on a very consistent basis.

    Examples:
    1. After check in at 6:45, I requested turndown service both using the in-room app and I called front desk. Upon return to the room at 7:45pm, no turn down had taken place.
    2. Had breakfast at 6:00am in the room. Left the room at 6:45 and used both the app and mentioned to front desk that I was leaving the hotel, requested room cleaning and needed a laundry pick up. My wife, arriving on a different flight, arrived at 1pm. The room had been cleaned, but both my laundry and the breakfast trolley were still in the room. Calls at 1pm and 5pm to request a pick up were ignored. Ended up putting the trolley on the hallway at 6:30pm (other guests' room service steadily accumulated in the hallway during the day as well)
    3. Turn-down service was unloved. Half closed blinds, missing breakfast menus, no fresh towels. All reeked of indifference
    4. Remember the laundry? Called them at 7pm (the stated same day return time) to be told that "your laundry was picked up at 2pm, so it will come back tomorrow". The front desk duty manager did not seem to want to understand that I requested a pick up at 7am, and that I couldn't help the fact that they hadn't decided to pick up the laundry until 2pm. The laundry didn't come back until 4pm the next day, a 'quick' 33 hour turn around for a $16 charge. This also messed up my schedule as I needed to shirt for an event.
    5. Picking up the phone? The 5 ring rule applied in many hotels does not apply in the Plaza. Whatever number you call, Butler, Operator, Room Service, you'll be lucky if someone answers at all.

    Some good things? Nice toiletries, lots of complementary water.
    What needs work? Sagging mattress, no heated floors in the cold bathrooms, and overly complex lighting systems.

    I don't like using TripAdvisor to complain. I sent all the above to the GM in a direct email. Quickly, an email came back from the Operations Manager suggesting we speak. I replied that I was too busy to speak, but after that.. deafening silence.

    The last straw was check out. I had made clear to management on 3 instances that I was unhappy with my laundry. Yet, I still had to ask them to remove the charge for laundering my shirt.

    In summary, a decent property with a great location, but a team with no love for their property or guests. I won't be returning.
