  • JD's

I took my family family to NYC this weekend for my son's first visit to my home state. I have stayed at some fantastic hotels in town ( Crosby Street Hotel is a good one), and I typically don't write reviews, but this place is special. The staff we were going to the SpongeBob musical and actually brought my son a SpongeBob t-shirt and CD. On day 2, the staff delivered Home Alone 2 (which includes scenes from this hotel) to our room. The service here is extraordinary. Special thanks to Omar and Laura for making this trip a special memory for our entire family

  • Great food hall

Went to look around this iconic hotel. Loved all the decor in the entrance and flowers galore. However the food hall downstairs was the hidden gem. Lots of different food and drink. We had the best New York cheesecake down there. Unbelievable.

  • Fantastic Stay at an Iconic Hotel

    by Greg187 on 2018-08-15 010:14 pm

Really enjoyed our stay in a hotel with true, old world elegance. Overall a really nice stay and I highly recommend it.

However, I do agree with another reviewer that the hotel check in area is rather anticlimactic. You are shuffled off to the left and tucked between two bars is the registration. Couldn't even attempt to compare it to the hotel's original registration area.

To that end, The Champagne Bar seems like a temporary space and almost unnecessary given the Rose Bar is just a few feet away. I've also never been in a hotel lobby before where there weren't chairs or couches to use while waiting for a car or another guest. And the book store, while lovely, seems out of place and not a good use of that space.

My hope is that they reopen the legendary Oak Bar and create a guest lobby that better represents their commitment to elegance. Remember, you only get one chance to make a great first impression.

  • Exquisite!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this iconic hotel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. What a beautiful property! The smell of flowers throughout the hotel were wonderful. I had communicated with the staff for quite some time about our stay and wanting to make it special. Our room was ready with champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and some nice gifts! We certainly appreciated it! The chandeliers in the hotel, room, and bathroom were stunning. Some attention to detail on light bulbs is warranted. The 24 carat gold plaited fixtures were equally stunning. Large room and beautiful bathroom. Water pressure was very good and very hot. We didn't want to leave the shower! It seems that most of the hotel does not have much of a view. The side facing Central Park seems to be mostly private residences. I was a little disappointed our room wasn't upgraded despite my multiple requests and being told it was based on availability. After talking to the staff after we had already checked in, it appears rooms were available they just decided not to offer to me...unless I wanted to spend $500 more per night. Also, when we arrived Friday night around 9:40 and asked the front desk attendant what time the restaurants closed, he said 10:00. By the time we got our bags and got back downstairs it was almost 10:00. We asked the concierge about the restaurants and she said the kitchen closes at 9:30 and gave us some reservations off property she recommended. Before leaving the hotel, we glanced at the hotel restaurant and asked the hostess how long they were open. She said that served until 11:00pm. In fact the menu clearly states this. So why didn't the front desk associate or the concierge know this? It is probably costing the hotel restaurant some patrons. We ate there and the Caesar salads with chicken were very good. The fitness center is very nice. And the food court area in the basement area is quite expansive and definitely worth the visit. I wish there had either been coffee in the room or a coffee stand in the lobby.
