  • Very nice hotel

    This hotel is well located within walking distance of many tourist places such as the Art Institute, The Bean, Skydeck, etc. The air conditioning is thankfully strong. The staff is very nice - particularly, the doorman. He was helpful and friendly. The room is clean and the spacious. I would definitely stay there again.

  • A pleasant stay

    We enjoyed our recent stay at the Silversmith.
    We were there for four nights, having just flown into Chicago, from London. We had pre-booked our room before we left home.
    Our room was very comfortable, the bed extremely so. The room was well appointed, the only minus was the lack of a side-table on my side of the bed. Bathroom was excellent, all facilities worked well, including the internet connection. Although the elevated train tracks of The Loop were just outside our window at the front of the hotel, we were not subject to much noise because of the double (triple?) glazing. We were hardly aware of the trains passing.
    If you are interested in staying here, be aware that there is a rail connection (the Blue Line) from the O'Hare Airport ($US5) which will deliver you to the underground Monroe Station just two blocks from the Silversmith or, alternatively, take the Blue Line train to one of a couple of a couple of stations on The Loop, where you can transfer to one of the trains on the loop that stop at a station right outside the hotel.
    The very well appointed Art Gallery is very handy to the hotel, being just a couple of blocks away.
    If you want to travel further from the hotel, consider the commuter rail and obtain metro maps from the front desk.

  • So many great things about this hotel but...

    We stayed at The Silversmith in Downtown Chicago in July 2019. The room was very comfortable for our family of four and the location excellent. All staff members, with one exception, went above and beyond to be welcoming and helpful. We did encounter one staff member who left us with a bad taste in our mouths over something that would have been very easy to accommodate. If you book at this hotel, you'll be charged an additional $22 dollar "destination fee." It's to cover bottled water in your room, Keurig coffee, the fitness center and fruit infused water in the lobby. During our stay, we attended a Cubs game in 90+ degree heat. We arrived back at the hotel with our two kids ages 7 and 10 around 11:30 pm. We were hot, thirsty, and tired. The complimentary water in the lobby had run dry. It was 11:30 pm so I didn't really expect it to be full. A case of the hotel's "complimentary" bottled water was sitting at the registration desk. I asked if we could have some and was given 2 bottles. Granted, there were 4 very hot and thirsty people standing there. I asked for 2 more bottles and then asked if we could have an extra set to take to the room as I knew we'd drink the first ones right up. Begrudgingly, I was given 2 more bottles and told no extra ones could be given. I was upset because complimentary water was supposed to be part of the "destination fee" we were paying. We used no other complimentary services and asked for no additional water during our two night stay. I'm sure we just encountered a "bad egg" as every other staff member was great. Unfortunately, that one encounter over 4 bottles of "complimentary" water supposedly covered by our "destination fee" will have us looking elsewhere to stay next time we're in town.

  • Fantastic Hotel

    Having lived in the city for years, I now live in the suburbs and frequently stay overnight in the city. My usual go-to hotels off Michigan Ave were booked so I found Silversmith and made a reservation. From the moment we walked in, every staff member was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful hotel lobby and very large rooms with comfy beds. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and both were excellent. The location is perfect if you are going to the theater, Grant Park, Art museum, or shopping on State. I will definitely return!

  • A Good Hotel - Possibly Understaffed

    I'm conflicted about my recent stay @ The Silversmith Hotel. It's an intimate option in a great location offering comfortable, well-appointed rooms, and the staff is uniformly friendly. The room rates are competitive, and the overall experience is better than you'd get in a larger property.

    Still, our rooms were never cleaned in a timely manner. Each day of our recent stay we'd leave the hotel by 9A, and when we'd come back around 4P after a day of sightseeing we'd find our room hadn't been serviced. Housekeeping would show up around 430P to clean the room, but by that time we were tired. We wanted to relax. We didn't want to go to the lobby to wait out the cleaning. Rooms should be cleaned by 3P, the stated check-in time.

    I can't disparage our housekeeper b/c she was always friendly and able to provide us with fresh towels, water, and new Keurig pods, but it seemed the poor woman was overworked. One has to wonder what's going on, management-wise, when it comes to staffing the housekeeping department.

    Also, the $20 "resort fee" is a total ripoff-especially when your room isn't being serviced in a timely manner. You can get free internet, Keurig coffee, and water @ many budget properties - but they at least provide you with a breakfast of some sort.

    I'd recommend The Silversmith, but with reservations. It's certainly a nice hotel, with friendly employees, but if your looking for a four-star experience you may want to look elsewhere.
