  • What you should know...

We had a family outing in Tucson this last week. We played Tubac on Sunday April 7th. We played the Rancho and Otero nines. There are 3 nines here.
Do yourself a favor and play here. Tin Cup was filmed here but there are so many better reasons to come and play. It's an old ranch property. Big cottonwoods and mesquite trees are predominate. There are even cows to watch you play. Lovely old country club feel to the place. The resort buildings and restaurant are really quite lovely. Excellent old world architecture. Drop your bags at the bag drop and let the staff do the rest. Lots of hustle from the staff and the starter runs a tight ship. The greens fee includes a cart but no GPS. You also have to pay extra for range balls. A yardage book is very helpful as there are plenty of doglegs and hazards in play. It pays to know where to hit your ball.
Great restaurant with a view of the last hole on the Anza nine. The hole is a par 3 to an island green. There is a local tradition to razz any balls that land in the water and to applaud well struck shots to the green....so be prepared to be judged playing this hole!
Our group talked that we could easily stay here for 2 or 3 days enjoying the golf and resort AND then head to Tucson for more golf.
A real gem and well worth a visit.

  • Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers at 0615 hrs.?

    by Robert V on 2019-04-14 08:40 am

We have stayed at the Tubac Golf Resort for years, and this year we will probably have three stays. An easy 2-hour drive from our Ahwatukee home, the moment you enter the grounds, one's blood pressure quickly lowers. We enjoy the haciendas, especially when the back patio faces the golf course. While we are non-golfers, there is much to keep us occupied.

Still, there are things that management should address. On our stay earlier this month, we were startled when the gas-powered leaf blowers were turned on at 0615 hrs outside our room. What had been an enjoyable sleep, was now over. This occurred both mornings at the same time. Beyond bizarre. We also forgot to bring our own toilet tissue and shampoo. Toilet tissue so thin, that Venezuelans would probably reject it, and heavily scented shampoo is not something I want to smell throughout the day.

We do enjoy Stables Restaurant for breakfast. I could select the Otero breakfast with those fantastic link sausages, every day of the year. As for the dinner menu? Boring. The menu needs major surgery. During our dinner, I kept thinking about the incredible Sosa Style Shrimp that I had the night before at Elvira's. Simply stated, the Stables menu needs some Sizzle!

We will be back in July!

  • Below expectations

by Ksdsbd on 2019-04-12 06:59 pm

The positives are the grounds are well kept, however, the room did not meet expectations for the price. We were disappointed with room quality overall. Mold on shower wall and dirty bandaid and sticky spill on floor upon check-in. No bar soap for bathroom sink. The bed was comfortable, but bed frame was broken. Rooms need a dresser and better lighting and a microwave.
I would recommend the spa. Nice ambiance with garden hot tub and very pleased with the services.

  • wonderful view - only visited restaurant

we had lunch there in early March. the day was beautiful so we were able to sit out on the patio. the food was good and serving size generous. the young staff seemed a little disorganized - maybe just gearing up after a slow winter. very pleasant overall.

  • Very Pleasant Couple of Nights

This location has beautiful scenery and was very peaceful. We had a large suite and the bedding was comfortable. I would have appreciated a couple more bath towels, but I ended up using the pool towels so I got by OK. We did not appreciate the warning notice stating that we were responsible for the pool towels or we would incur a charge if we left them at the pool...Not something we expect to find at a high end hotel. Everything appeared clean and well kept-up. Except for a negative experience in the restaurant, we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return (we opted to eat elsewhere on our second evening).
