  • Feeling letdown.

    by Bluedukie99 on 2019-01-21 05:14 am

I was really looking forward to our stay at the Woodstock Inn over MLK weekend but was unfortunately disappointed at almost every turn.

We arrived around 9:30p on Friday evening after a long drive from Boston with two kids (3.5yr and 11mo). When I got to check in, I was greeted by a young blonde receptionist who was exceedingly condescending. I inquired about the underground parking lot (due to the incoming snowstorm) and she looked me up and down and stated that it was only for people who utilize valet (as if I couldn't afford it despite paying $500 a night for the room?). Please keep in mind that this is NOT what I was told on the phone when I inquired days earlier. I later asked the Valet and he cheerfully pointed us in the direction of the garage to self park with no issues (btw the Valet guys were great!). Strike 1. Also, for those interested, there are only a handful of parking spots in the garage (maybe 15?). They do have ample outdoor parking.

We finally reach our room with the baby stroller to find out that our room was actually down a flight of stairs such that our only option was to dead lift our baby stroller to get in and out. There were no other room options per the front desk. Strike 2. I had requested a crib be available for our stay. We were provided a wobbly metal contraption with one bent wheel. Additionally, the crib sheets that were provided were too long and therefore too loose. This creates a sleeping hazard for the baby. Strike 3. The Woodstock King room itself was exceptionally small and dated such that the only place the crib could actually fit was right next to the window, where there was a cold draft. Strike 4. While moving the small armchair in order to make room for the crib, I found an unidentified green pill on the ground, no doubt from a prior guest. Good thing I don't let the baby crawl on the ground. Strike 5. Other small issues include a non functioning Nespresso machine and a TINY mini fridge that was barely large enough to hold the baby's milk.

We actually came as part of a large group to celebrate my brother in laws birthday. Several members of the group commented that we seemed to be the only people of color staying at the Inn and that they felt some racist undertones from the front desk staff members. This was not my personal experience but more than two people from our party mentioned that on separate occasions.

The reason I gave two stars was because the Inn itself was beautiful, the grounds were well kept, the valet and housekeeping staff were nice, and there was a good game room downstairs for the kids. The Inn is within walking distance to town which is very charming. We were also a short drive from several great places to eat including Simon Pearce and Worthy Kitchen. The in house Red Rooster restaurant was also pretty good.

In the end, however, our stay was substantially colored by our initial experiences with the front staff as well as the room, service, and cleanliness. It certainly was not worth price paid. We will not return.

  • Charming Inn

Excellent on all levels of services both the Inn as well as the spa. Other members of my party enjoyed the nortic and downhill ski and had stellar experiences. Would come back again and recommend to others.

  • A great reset weekend

    by JDMiggs36 on 2019-01-19 11:07 am

My wife and I stay at the inn every June. We teach and the first week we are off, we go to Vermont and stay at the inn. We hike around Mount Tom and Mount Peg. We go off around the Pogue and visit the Billings farm and surrounding areas. It is nice to go from rustic and wooded to private and pampered. One of my favorite places. Also, visit for Wassail Weekend to see the giant gingerbread house.

  • Lovely winter getaway

    by doubleh123 on 2019-01-15 04:28 pm

We had a wonderful visit to the Inn. We stayed in the Eagle room which looks out onto the front entrance and town green. It's beautiful! The entire staff is pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed a drink in Richardson's Tavern before we went out for the evening. (It's actually difficult to leave the Inn on a cold winter night because the enormous fireplace begs you to stay!)
The next morning we shared a perfectly delicious breakfast at The Red Rooster. No complaints at all... we highly recommend the Inn and look forward to our next visit.

  • Wonderful Resort..A Must on Bucket List

    by Guide52866806812 on 2019-01-15 10:26 am

This charming Inn right in the center of Woodstock VT is charming, warm, and very relaxing. The staff was so welcoming..whether you sit by the expansive fire, visit the game room for a game of pool or shuffle board, or relax in the warn and cozy tavern there is a little nook or cranny for everyone. Homemade cookies and tea each afternoon, delicious meals and the decor is stunning. Sadly did not visit the Spa, but plan on going back to do so.
