Dating to 1716, this enduring landmark of gracious hospitality has operated as a hotel since 1889. Nestled in a quaint New England village famed for its revolutionary and literary roots, Concord’s Colonial Inn has more than its share of history. During the Revolutionary War, one of the Inn’s original buildings stored arms and provisions for the Concord Minutemen. Later, Henry David Thoreau would take up residence with family while attending Harvard. In 2014, the Inn completed renovations of the public spaces, as well as guestrooms in the Prescott Wing and Main Inn. While the renovations have added a modern touch to the hotel and restaurants, the Inn’s original buildings and fixtures provide unmatched historic ambiance and charm to this hotel near Boston.

  • Admire the exposed beams and beautiful hardwood floors, some of which are original pine from 1716, the inn’s opening.
  • Discover the amazing heritage of Concord’s Colonial Inn. At the beginning of the American Revolution, the structure served as an arms and provisions storehouse for local Minutemen.

  • Tour Orchard House, the home where Louisa May Alcott lived and where she also wrote and set Little Women. Nearly 80% of the furnishings belonged to the Alcott family. Bronson Alcott, her father, purchased the land in 1857 and the manor house, which remains extant, dates back to the 1660s.
  • Explore the trail at Minute Man National Historical Park to learn about the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Re-enactors bring an extra dimension to the historic site.
  • Visit Walden Pond State Reservation. In 1845, Henry David Thoreau moved into a one-room house which he built himself. A replica of the house can be seen today.

  • Visit the home of Ralph Waldo Emerson, the poet, essayist, and philosopher. He was a founder of the Transcendentalist movement, believing nature to be a source of spiritual inspiration. The house itself dates back over 200 years.
  • See the home of Lexington’s first two ministers and the place John Hancock and Samuel Adams stayed on April 18, 1775, when Paul Revere stopped by to warn them that British troops had left Boston.

  • Dine at Merchants Row inside the Concord’s Colonial Inn. It serves local fare including Crab Stuffed Cod, Lobster Roll, Faroe Island Salmon, and a Yankee Pot Roast.
  • Savor another regional favorite known as the New England Boiled Dinner. This flavorful dish consists of a blend of mouthwatering corned beef and vegetables.
  • Taste a classic New England treat known as the johnnycake. Dating back to colonial America (specifically Rhode Island), johnnycakes are a delicious cornmeal flatbread that are beloved throughout the entire region.
