When the first Polynesians settled in Hawaii more than a century ago, their art and culture became the cornerstone of Hawaii’s rich heritage. From learning about the art of hula to natural diversity like waterfalls, lush rainforests, and lava flows, there is a lot to experience on the Big Island. Located in Hilo, the Grand Naniloa is a convenient base with a rich history of its own. Built in 1939 on the former site of a yacht club, the 388-guestroom hotel is host to the annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, and is spectacularly located amongst the towering banyan trees of the “Hilo Walk of Fame,” famously planted by Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and other celebrities over the years.
