• Discover the Edwardian architecture of the Hotel Whitcomb. The plans for the luxury hotel were changed while it was still under construction, and the Hotel Whitcomb was converted to a substitute City Hall as the city rebuilt after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Once the original City Hall was rebuilt, the hotel was converted back to its original design and opened as the Hotel Whitcomb in 1916. The words City Hall were faintly etched above the hotel’s entrance until the mid-1990s, paying homage to the hotel’s history.
• Admire the grand lobby of the Hotel Whitcomb, which features Austrian crystal chandeliers, marble columns, rare Janesero wood paneling, intricately carved ceiling molding, and beautiful Tiffany stained glass above the front desk.
• Marvel at the history of the Whitcomb Ballroom, which still boasts one of the largest parquet dance floors in the city. Concerts were once broadcast nationwide from the Whitcomb Ballroom.
