  • Fun Family Weekend

    We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and in Eureka Springs. Would recommend a few updates and cleanups on the property (pool area and porches). The staff was very friendly and the ice cream on site was a big hit with the kids.

    Our stay was great! The staff is friendly and the beds comfy. The hotel is very clean as well. There is so much history here that it is a must do! If you happen to stay until Sunday, the Sunday brunch is the best!! It's a true Brunch and you'll just wish your stomach could hold more food!

  • 10 year anniversary.

    Went to hotel for our 10 year anniversary, was very relaxing and wonderful experience. My husband and I both got massages from the spa, money well spent. Will be returning in the future for another stay.

  • No Ghosts But Lots of Fun!

    This hotel is touted as the most haunted hotel in America. Is it? I don't know. I didn't see any ghosts but we sure had fun not finding them! The grounds are amazing! Taking a stroll at night with fireflies dancing everywhere was magical. Eating pizza in the 4th floor bar (on the balcony) while gazing across the valley at "puffy Jesus" was memorable. Watching my dogs miss the resident cat in the lobby was hysterical. Maybe the cat was a ghost? Not sure as my dogs couldn't ever see her (when they totally should have). Talking to the doormen who were liberal with tips about "can't miss" excursions was delightful. Actually, the doorman who is there in the summer and in the Caribbean in the winter was hands down our favorite staff member. Debating the purchase of brownies or lemon bars in the tiny shop was a fun memory thanks to the guy who served us. Noting that our pleasant and competent midnight waiter was also our pleasant and competent early morning breakfast waiter was surprising. The staff - nothing but incredible. The room was clean and comfortable. The shower was not so great but I guess you can't win them all. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Run-down charm without a luxury experience

    I visited the 1886 Crescent Hotel for 2-night visit with my family to Eureka Springs. I was excited about the hotel's charm, history and its generally positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

    Yes, the hotel is charming and it does have an interesting history. However, it also is run down and in need of significant investment. The problem is that they are charging premium rates for a non-premium hotel experience (over $200 a night, in season, in rural Arkansas).

    As you enter the hotel, the door is sometimes held open by a bellman. The lobby grabs your attention with its old fashioned look. On further inspection though, the carpet needs replacing, the furniture is beaten up and the room is generally cluttered. The staff was friendly but not-quite professional, and were overly relaxed and not in customer-service mode.

    The room we were assigned was also past its "use by" date. Mismatched furniture (period desk and couch, weird box-like dresser with 1980's handles, safe sitting atop a square refrigerator), stained carpet and walls in serious need of painting. It was summer, and air conditioning was needed - and fortunately it was provided - however, it was a window unit that was very noisy and kept everyone awake at night (dripping noise and fan noise which was not addressed after speaking with the hotel staff). The windows themselves were sealed shut for some reason. The room's high ceiling was marked with water spots and plaster-repair areas. One of the beds had a concave mattress that forced you to roll to the center. The door did not close well and did not seem totally secure.

    The bathroom was also a disappointment. The ceiling was also marked with water spots and missing plaster. The claw-foot bathtub was nice, but the surrounding shower curtain was situated so that it was difficult to shower without touching it - I'm not too much of a germ-a-phobe, but I really don't want to touch a used shower curtain if I can avoid it. The bathroom fixtures were outdated and in need of repair and the interior privacy shutters were broken. Also, bathroom products were in pump-type bottles fixed to the wall, which seemed out of place in a supposedly nice hotel.

    We ate breakfast in the hotel dining room. We had the buffet - the quality of the food was fine. My kids enjoyed the breakfast burrito station.

    This hotel is in a beautiful location and is charming in its own way. However, for the price it does not deliver. Lots issues should be addressed if they hotel wants to continue its rich history as a premium vacation spot. Alternatively, they could charge less for the rooms and manage guests' expectations better.
