Nestled just a stone’s throw from quintessential Bergen landmarks like idyllic Bryggen, the city’s bustling Fish Market, and the Fløibanen, a funicular railway that scales neighboring Mount Fløyen, Opus XVI is ideally situated in the heart of it all. A famous Bergen waypost in its own right, Opus XVI greets guests with its distinctive brick façade and leaves travelers feeling as if they have truly experienced a unique piece of the city’s heritage. Once home to Bergens Kreditbank, then the community’s largest bank, it has since been reincarnated as a historic, family-run hotel inspired by famed Romantic-era Norwegian composer and pianist Edvard Grieg, who is both a relative of one of the hotel’s current owners and a former Bergen resident. It is this virtuosic predecessor that gives Opus XVI its musical name, taking the title from one of Grieg’s most masterful works, Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16.

Opus XVI offers 65 guestrooms, including five suites, each comfortably appointed with sleek furnishings and a charming character courtesy of the building’s noteworthy architecture. In between traipsing around postcard-perfect Bergen and exploring the area’s abundant natural beauty—just like Edvard Grieg—guests also have access to Brasserie & Bar, the hotel’s onsite restaurant, which specializes in classic French dishes crafted out of locally sourced ingredients.
