  • Discover the fascinating musical heritage and familial ties that inspire Opus XVI. The hotel is coined after Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16., the only concerto completed by famous composer Edvard Grieg, a relative of the family that owns the hotel and once-Bergenser. Taking this inspiration further, the “Opus” in the name is an homage to the Latin word for “artistic work,” while the hotel’s address is, appropriately, Vågsallmenningen 16. What’s more, the building’s most recent expansion, which took place in 1918, was created by Schak Bull, Edvard Grieg’s cousin and the architect that designed his home “Troldhaugen.”

  • Admire the distinguished brick façade that once housed the largest bank in the city of Bergen, Bergens Kreditbank. Known by some locals as “Banco Rotto,” which, fittingly, means “bankrupt” in Italian, the distinctive building has been a landmark of the community since its initial opening in 1876. This is even where composer Edvard Grieg did his banking when he was a Bergen resident.

  • Marvel at the beautiful views of Bergen and the plentiful natural beauty offered just outside the windows of Opus XVI, which overlook Mount Fløyen and Vågsallmenningen, one of the city’s quaint public squares.

  • Enjoy Opus XVI’s in-the-heart-of-it-all location, which puts guests within just a few minutes walk from must-see Bergen sites like the charming harborside neighborhood of Bryggen, the Fish Market, the funicular railway that climbs Mount Fløyen, and more.
