The five-star luxury Pestana Amsterdam Riverside Hotel is housed in a National Monument, the former town hall and archive of the Amstel community. This magnificent Neo Dutch Renaissance building was built between 1889 - 1892, designed by Roelof Kuipers and features sculptures on the exterior crafted by Bart van Hove. The transverse, symmetrical building has its frontage to the Amsteldijk and the Amstel River. It served as a town hall until 1914, when a new wing was added and the municipality of the city of Amsterdam started using it as an archive building until 2007.

Known as the "Venice of the North," Amsterdam's many canals are one of the main attractions of the city. The Pestana Amsterdam Riverside Hotel is conveniently located in the bohemian De Pijp neighborhood, where guest can find eclectic shopping, lively bars, and charming, photogenic 16th and 17th century narrow townhouses. Guests can find everything in the lively open-air Albert Cuypmarkt, from fresh produce and flowers, to clothing and souvenirs. Rent a bike to be truly Dutch and visit the Hernitage Amsterdan, Rijksmuseum, Stedelsjik Museum, Diamantslijperijen, Van Gogh Museum, and Madame Tussauds Amsterdam.
