Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri has provided wonderful accommodations for guests since its establishment in the late 17th-century. It is located off the western coast of Norway in the idyllic fishing village of Bekkjarvik on Austevoll. The hotel was established in response to a 16th-century decree by the Danish King Christian IV that there should be a gjestgiveri (or guesthouse) built at every location within a full day’s journey to sea.

In Bekkjarvik, their commerce included salted herring, exported lobster, and the time-honored craft of barrel-making. Today, the Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri has a reputation of being one of Norway’s most acclaimed hotels. Though small, the village of Bekkjarvik is filled with personality. This quiet locale is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. In addition to the hotel’s recreational activities, guests can explore beyond on foot or by ferry. It is recommended to explore the beautiful trails on the island or take a day trip to Bergen by boat.
